This past weekend,
vixyish flew down from Seattle so that we could spend a fun-filled weekend jammed into Kristoph's garage, trying to burn through all her vocal parts for Wicked Girls in one triumphant marathon of awesomeocity. We had thirteen songs on our list. We really hoped we'd be able to get through at least eight of them.
We got through all thirteen.
We started recording on Friday afternoon, at one, and worked for four hours before wandering away with Jeff Bohnhoff, to have a lovely dinner with him and the rest of the clan (sans Alex, who is presently out of country). We returned to Kristoph's Saturday morning, and worked for another four hours before we blinked and realized that we were somehow, miraculously, done. In two days, we recorded my lead vocals for two tracks ("How Much Salt?" and "Wicked Girls Saving Ourselves"), and Vixy's vocals for thirteen tracks, divided between two lead vocals and nine backing vocals. I mean, like, whoa.
Given that there are only sixteen tracks on the album, it's almost easier to list what Vixy didn't do. But that would be silly. So...
Vixy's leads:
"How Much Salt?"
"Wicked Girls"
Vixy's backing vocals:
"Counting Crows"
"Cartography"
"Jack's Place"
"Carnival Glass"
"Writing Again"
"My Story Is Not Done"
"Mama Said"
"Fox Hunt"
"The Snow Queen Dreams"
"Mother of the Crows"
"Tanglewood Tree"
I mean, wow. This album...when Kristoph ran back "Wicked Girls" for us to approve, we both had tears in our eyes. And "Writing Again" is damn near deadly in its painful perfection.
This album is going to be so good.
