Several people have stopped by here in the last several days to comment, on one entry or another, about the fact that the fannish advent makes their holiday season better. I wanted to pause a moment and say thanks for that. Thanks in a big, big way.
See, I do this crazy stuff because it makes me happy to make other people happy. That includes the fannish advent, the Iron Poet rounds, and things like the ongoing cycle of songs based on Mia's pendants. Yes, there's a lot of frustration involved -- you probably don't want to know how much I whine about people not reading the instructions, or not saying 'thank you' when I write them something that they specifically requested -- but there's also a lot of reward in it. I like making people happy. I make a lot of people happy when I do this.
So thanks to everyone who's participated, either in this or in my other totally insane audience participation activities of 2008. You've done a lot to keep me sane through some very stressful times, and while I may complain, having something small and completely inside my control to complain about also does a lot to preserve my ability to cope. (A vitally necessary note: please don't take this as a request to go out of your way to drive me crazy during 2009. I mean, for serious. Occasional 'I didn't really read the rules all that carefully' slip-ups are fine, but things that make me cry and consider canceling the rest of the exercise are not. So it's okay to occasionally have an attack of the dumb -- we all do that -- but please don't have an attack of the mean.)
I have really enjoyed writing for you this past year. Songs, poetry, and fannish advent weirdness, it's all been great.
Thank you.
