It's not too late for OVFF!
So are you looking at the vast wasteland that is your October, wondering what you can do to brighten it, trying to figure out what great and glorious event might inject a shot of meaning, magic, madness, and yes, music into your humdrum daily life? Well, I know I would be, if I didn't have the Ohio Valley Filk Festival to look forward to!
Yes, OVFF, the filk convention so nice that it doesn't even need to have an acronym that makes sense! Held in lovely, scenic Dublin, Ohio, it's three jam-packed days of filk, fun, and festivity -- and you can extend that if you like, since the Thursday night gathering in the hotel lobby is practically an alcohol-free cocktail party at this point, and the Monday morning farewell breakfast is like a big ol' amoeba of love! * The Thursday Night Meetup! This is the first year where it's really been an official convention even. More people come early every year, gathering to hug, chatter, and settle into the convention hotel in a relaxed fashion. You, too, can hear the high-pitched squeals that greet new arrivals, and may come to believe that a blonde can fly.
* The Mad Hatter's Tea Party! The official convention meet and greet event, featuring free food and funny hats, with prizes given for the most creative chapeau! It's a fun way to meet new people, and wearing a plush octopus on your head is a way to break even the most arctic of ice!
* The Pegasus Concert! The best of the best in the world of filk is gathered together for a gala event that must be heard to be believed, and is definitely one of the shining stars of the OVFF experience. Plus, you can browse the Interfilk auction items on display at the back of the room.
* Open filking! Wow. So much open filking. Open filking like you wouldn't believe. From the hallway jam to the crowd in the main room, there's something for everything. Listen, request, pick, pass or play, there's a place where you can find the things you want to hear. And if that isn't working for you, come find me, and I'll sing you something.
* Seanan's Inevitable Public Passing-Out! I like to sleep. I like to sleep sitting up in chairs. Poking me with sticks when I fall asleep in the consuite is definitely an experience not to be missed.
* The Pegasus Banquet! Find out the winners before anyone else!
* Singing In The Atrium Of The Mongolian Barbeque Place Downtown! Now I'm just getting silly.
...and so much, much more. Ohio would be glad to have you, and frankly, so would I! Still sitting on the fence of attendance? What if I told you that you'd have the chance to face me in a DDR competition to the death? Not that you will, since my doctor doesn't let me do that sort of thing right now, but you can swing, chat, eat, dine, dance, gossip, go swimming, hang out, mingle and more, and if that's not enough, well, I'll be joining the lovely Interfilk wenches for this year's auction, wearing the little black pleated skirt that used to belong to The Cat.
