Ten good things about today.

10. I have my album artwork for Red Roses and Dead Things, and man-oh-man, it is sweet. Like, seriously, knock-your-socks-off sweet. It helps that my artist was working from totally rockin' photos, but he really delivered above and beyond my wildest expectations. To the point that I'm thinking promo postcards, just to have an excuse to use the images.

9. The book I'm currently reading, The Speckled Monster: A Historical Tale of Battling Smallpox, caused no fewer than three people to get up and move away from me on the BART when they saw the cover. It was a very clear sequence of 'see, grimace, relocate,' and it made me laugh my little blonde butt off. Clearly, books on smallpox contain smallpox. Who knew?

8. Also -- and I say this from my privileged place as a child of an era where smallpox is currently neither threat nor menace, where I have actually heard people dismiss it as no worse than chickenpox -- smallpox is awesome. This disease was absolutely horrific. I feel a song coming on...

7. When I have a bad day (yesterday was a bad day, for a lot of reasons), the guys at my comic book store make a serious effort to cheer me up. And not just by providing me with issues of Fables and The Boys.

6. Pumpkin Spice syrup has returned to Starbucks. PUMPKIN SPICE IS BACK!!!!! This is one of the solemn holidays of my personal year, and I intend to spend my holiday weekend hip-deep in sweet, pseudo-pumpkin goodness. Because love is a little cup of Halloween cheer.

5. September is already slated to contain two Counting Crows concerts with Jeanne, a trip to Seattle to see some of my favorite people in the whole world, and at least two more 'Velveteen vs.' stories. Which remain incredibly fun to write.

4. Oh, and I'm halfway through 'Velveteen vs. The Coffee Fiends,' wherein we finally learn her secret origin. Which...kinda sucks. Poor Vel.

3. My test reads on Discount Armageddon are going well, and the book is really rocking peoples socks in a serious and meaningful way. If by 'meaningful' we mean 'ballroom dancing cryptozoologist jumps off building and serves cocktails.' I love Verity so hard right now.

2. I have finally finished tagging The Lost Year of my LJ; everything is now properly linked and searchable. This means that by mousing over a tag, I can now see how many entries with that tag exist. I have two hundred and forty-eight entries tagged 'lyrics.' That is awe-inspiring, and a little bit intimidating. I mean, that is a lot of songs.

1. Chris tonight, party tomorrow...it's gonna be a good weekend.

What's new and grand in the world of you?

good things, recording, art, writing, medical stuff, street pennies, life rocks, chris, concerts, book slut, food
