If I ruled the world, media edition.

Having recently gone on, at length, about how much I'd love to see Neil Patrick Harris play Seymour (Little Shop of Horrors) with Nathan Fillion as Oren Scrizello (DDS), I have decided to list the other improbable-but-I-want-them media concepts currently on my personal chart.

10. Amethyst, Princess of Gemworld in trade paperback format. This was a mid-eighties comic from DC aimed at the illusive female market, and it was better than it had any right to be. Every year there's a new rumor that it's finally coming, and every year we're disappointed again. Sorrow and woe.

09. Slither II. James Gunn has said that the sequel exists in his head -- it wouldn't be pasted on, it would be an actual continuation of the original story, which would be just amazing -- but the movie didn't make enough money to guarantee getting it made. I continue to have hope. Hope dwindles a little more with every passing year.

08. Evil Dead: The Musical: The Movie. I've both heard 'oh, it's being made' and 'no, it's not being made, that was a rumor meant to get the gullible.' Given that I was told, once upon a time, that the show was a rumor meant to get the gullible, I choose to believe that the movie is coming. Someday. Please.

07. Supernatural season five. Season one was awesome. Season two was awesome. Season three was a mucky mess of trying and failing to be dark dark darky mcdarkson. Now we get season four, where they'll hopefully pull themselves out of the mud, bring back Jo, and get on with the business of totally kicking ass. Because that would make me happy.

06. A new Jane Lindskold book that isn't in her seemingly unending Wolf series. (Note that I don't read these, so it's entirely possible that they ended and I just haven't noticed yet. So hey, I could wind up getting what I want without so much as raising a finger.)

05. Legal DVD releases of Monsters and Tales from the Darkside. There was a time when I would have said that this was just so much pie-inna-sky dreaming, destined never to happen. But then we got a legal release of Galaxy High. Anything can happen!

04. While we're making things legal, I want a legal DVD release of Night of the Creeps. So there.

03. An X-Men movie on a level of quality and accuracy and affection to the characters with Iron Man. I'm voting Elisha Cuthbert for Emma. And if we must have a Jean, I'm voting Bryce Dallas Howard.

02. Also, how about a Fantastic Four movie with a decent Sue? While I'm asking for the impossible.

And finally, the big one:

01. A resurgence in American horror movie tropes, rather than the current focus on Japanese horror movie tropes mixed in with grindhouse levels of gore. We're combining the silly with the serious in some very bad ways, and the whole genre is suffering as a consequence. I just want horror to go back to being fun and following its own rules.

What are your big media asks?

television, horror movies, contemplation, comics, x-men
