Good morning, froggy!

I arrive at the train station weekday mornings before six o'clock. This means that I am, essentially, swimming in a sea of the living dead, surrounded by people who communicate mostly through grunts, moans, and maddened flailing of limbs. I find this rather soothing, as it is entirely unchallenging; I'm good at reading the social cues of zombies. This goes a long way to explaining, however, why I found it rather strange when I came up the stairs to the platform and found myself surrounded by anxious, muttering, obviously awake commuters. And by 'rather strange', I mean 'utterly baffling'.

I asked a woman I'd never actually seen with her eyes open before what was going on, and she said something about 'that THING' and waved a hand towards the far end of the platform. The one where there is no roof, and the rain falls freely. Being me, I was, of course, morally obligated to go and investigate; this is why I wouldn't survive for long in an actual horror movie.

'That THING' was visible from about eight feet out, being the only large, lumpy black blob on the platform. I moved closer. The lump became more visible. I started laughing. Because really, there was absolutely nothing else to do, under the circumstances.

Being deeply confused by the ruckus, the bullfrog didn't put up any fight when I walked over and scooped it off the platform. It just squirmed a little, since failure to do so would have resulted in it getting kicked out of the Amphibian's Union.

Things I have learned today: the station attendant will let you go out the emergency door and come back in without paying twice if you're doing it to get the bullfrog off her train platform. Also, she'll thank you profusely and look really freaked out by the fact that you're TOUCHING IT WITH YOUR HANDS OH DEAR LORD ABOVE PRESERVE US. And if you're quick about it, you won't even miss your train.

Bullfrogs. Making life better since evolution decided that giant amphibians were cool.
