Jekyll and Hyde is love.

So many and many a year ago (in a kingdom by the sea), I discovered a musical called Jekyll and Hyde. More specifically, I discovered the two disk 'concept recording' for that musical -- two solid hours of mad science Victoriana in a musical theatre format, with some songs that managed to permanently influence that way I think about music and how it should be staged (my fondness for the split duet, for example, came from the Muppets and was solidified by this show). I loved it passionately from the very first.

When my older brother asked me to come visit him in Indiana for the first time, I borrowed Alison's Walkman, and brought with me exactly one cassette: a double-length copy of the Jekyll and Hyde concept album. The Walkman had a switch that caused it to just keep turning the tape over and playing it, over and over again, forever. Which was awesome, because the opening number of Act II -- 'Murder Murder' -- would reliably wake me up. I crossed the country on a tide of Dr Pepper and violent musical theatre.

My original copy of the concept album was a victim of overplaying -- I literally listened it to death. So I bought a second copy, which I had for a year or so before it disappeared. Poof. I know I didn't loan it to anyone, and I've cleaned my house several times since then, so I'm pretty sure that if it's hiding, it's gonna win some sort of gold medal for 'vanishing within the home'.

Merav, having finally tired of my plaintive 'has anybody seen...?' just tracked down and bought me a new copy. More, she also found a copy of the original concept album, the single disk concept album, with different performers and different songs. Duuuuuuuuuuude. Freaky.

Merav loves me. And Jekyll and Hyde is love.

Seriously.

life rocks, good things, gratitude, love, clones, geekiness
