Today, I ran -- yes ran, all swift-footed and light -- most of the way from my office to the Sony Metreon, which is more than a few long city blocks. I wasn't winded when I got there, and when I did, I played DDR, and actually got a full combo on 'Crash' for the very first time. (If you don't know DDR, trust me, this is impressive.) I'm beginning to feel like maybe my body is listening to me again.
(I walked home from BART, rather than taking the bus and doing aerobics, because I believe in not pushing it too much.)
After the first of the year, I'm going to be rearranging my schedule to get off work earlier on Mondays, and take a yoga class at the center near my house. It'll hurt a lot, I'm sure, but I've been assured that yoga is one of the best things I can do for my back, and I really need something -- anything -- that will make it hurt less, and be less incapacitating when it does hurt. Yoga seems like a viable solution. I'm a little unhappy that I'll be starting up, and then promptly missing two classes due to being in the UK, but I'd rather start than put it off, because when I put things off, I find reasons to keep putting them off, and that's bad.
I'm actually happy about the current weather patterns in New York, as the lack of driving snow means I should be able (with thermals and proper gloves) to walk around enough to a) keep from going stir-crazy, and b) keep getting a reasonable amount of exercise. I have found that I miss exercise when I don't get it, and as this Makes Me Sad, it seems silly not to do what I can to keep myself moving. The idea of walking in London is genuinely exciting me.
Life is getting better, and so is my health.
Yay.
