New TV Shows, Life in Gloomy Melbourne, & Harry Potter

I found two shows that may be interesting for this coming fall:

Pushing Daisies

From the creator of Wonderfalls and Dead Like Me, Pushing Daisies has a super-saturated color palette that jars sharply (and intentionally) with its life-and-death theme: Lee Pace (Wonderfalls) plays Ned, a lonely pie maker who, as a child, discovers that he has the ability to bring dead things back to life. But this new gift has a few caveats: he can bring something back to life but if he ever touches them again, they die instantly and can't be resurrected again. Additionally, if he keeps them alive for more than a minute, someone else in proximity will die. Think of it as the law of conservation: if someone lives, someone else has to die.

Wow that just sounds awesome! Plus I adore the almost-morbid humor of Dead Like Me, which I miss terribly, so I'll definitely keep an eye out for this. I don't know the cast, apart from CHI MCBRIDE (Harper & Vogler!) and KRISTIN CHENOWETH (she that inspired Aaron Sorkin so), but the review said they were great. My only regret is that it's picked up by ABC, which means, no foul-mouthed characters :( (the GEM of Dead Like Me!). Then again, I think ABC's been good with its cancel-rates (compared to Fox or CW or NBC or the pay channels), so I suppose that's a plus.

Cashmere Mafia

Sex and the City creator Darren Star is back to New York in this new dramedy pilot, about four female executives, friends since college, who support one another through the trials and tribulations of work, family, and everything else life in New York City throws at them.

Okay, I liked Sex and the City, but this sounds like something I NORMALLY wouldn't watch (too girly), EXCEPT it has MIRANDA OTTO and LUCY LIU. I adore both of them (our own Aussie Eowyn... :) and Lucy Liu was SO the hottest Angel), so I'll be keeping a look out for this show too, also on ABC.

Today was a typical Melbourne day, weather-wise: Cold, wet, grey, gloomy... Unfortunately, I had a few errands to run for my trip, so I couldn't stay home in my toasty-warm apartment. Still, it wasn't too bad. Got all my shopping done and bought some GOOD food :D. I've been terrible the last couple of days, munching on chocolates and cookies and cakes, so today I actually bought some vegies, some fruits, cheese, and yummy sourdough bread. 'Got some chocolate-covered coffee beans too, of course, because, well, I'm not THAT good ;).

I'm thinking I'm gonna have that 'French' breakfast tomorrow of a large bowl of hot chocolate and bread with butter. Yummm...

Oh yeah, winter has officially come.

Not a big fan of it, since I can hardly stand the cold (I grow up in the tropics, so there ya go...). I'm already feeling kinda of woozy and flu-like... *sigh*

I'm currently re-reading Harry Potter and the Half-Blood Prince. I was gonna re-read them all (in order) before the seventh book and fifth movie come out, but I just remembered that I no longer have the first book (gave my copy as a gift), so I'll buy one tomorrow and take it with me to New Zealand. I know I don't talk about it often, but my love for Harry Potter knows no bounds :). It's the first book in recent memory that made me feel excited about reading and it's what got me into fandom in the first place (can't beat Ron/Hermione, people). I'll be both relieved and sad once that final book's released.

Alright, well, I think I'll end my night on the sofa with Celebrity Poker.

Enjoy your start of the summer, all of you lucky northern hemisphere-ers, you, haha... I was so excited when I found CHERRIES in my supermarket today :D. I ADORE the fruit, but since we get them imported from America (apparently, it's a northern hemisphere fruit) and it seems to only grow during the northern summer, I only get to eat them occasionally.

cashmere mafia, life, tv, celebrity poker, pushing daisies, book, harry potter
