Wiggses Birthday Card, Inside

The inside of Wiggses card is my first pop-up card ever. Basically I just took the picture from the front and turned into a pop-up. Or maybe I did the pop-up and copied the front from that, I can't remember.

I had a vague idea about what I was going to do right off, but I picked up a couple of books to refine the details. One of them was crap but The Pop-Up Book by Paul Jackson was a lot of help, though I wish they'd had more complex samples with instructions, instead of simple samples with instructions and complicated pictures without instructions.

I had done the original castle in three different layers showing the ground up of each section, so I printed out each layer separately on cardstock then glued each to the folds I made on the inside of a blank greeting card. Or something like that.  (Yes, my memory's already failing me...) The hardest part was figuring out the flags but putting the tower with the Wiggtopia flag right on the fold helped to make it took like it was really flying.

The foresty bits were partially done from the original drawings and partially added to by simply copying and cutting out bits and then adding them to the original strips to give it more of a wilderness look. The road was just drawn on the card itself.

It turned out so much better than I thought it would.  I was a little rushed because I had to send it as a package with the t-shirt included so I'm sure I could have made it look more professional eventually but I am totally happy with it even with the rough edges.

And here's my first pop-up!
