trust me about the sunscreen

I meant to make a phone post from last night's karaoke, but then I got drunk and forgot. Oops.

I also didn't do "Butterfly" by Crazy Town as I'd been sort of planning, because I would have wanted to do it at the beginning of the night so that when I totally screwed it up there would be lots more singing to ease the sting, but at the beginning of the night, the bar was half full of crazy drunk undergraduates. As Angela remarked, these kids were three sheets to the wind at 8:15. A particularly skeezy member of their group insisted on dancing for me during my rendition of... something, I forget. I don't think it was "Wild, Wild West," because I think I'd remember the incredible incongruity of his squatting/thrusting gyrations to THAT song. The sole female student among them did do a pretty fucking awesome version of "Cabaret," though.

Anyway, by the time they left, it just didn't feel like "Butterfly" time. Actually, my big hit of the night turned out to be "Girls Just Wanna Have Fun." I hadn't even considered the fact that I was singing Cyndi Lauper with bright pink hair until the other sociologists started shouting about it during the opening of the song. I do like my Cyndi Lauper, and it should come as no surprise that I admire her fashion sense. Sometimes I like to imagine an alternate universe in which the distinguishing difference from our own is that Cyndi Lauper, rather than Madonna, became an enduring cultural icon.

I also did "Black Velvet" again, which got extravagent praise from the former faculty member in attendance. Of course, he was also smitten with my performance of "Wild, Wild West."

Oh, and after I'd gotten pretty drunk, I talked Japanese to a woman behind the bar who I think might be the owner, and possibly also the mother of the bar-tending girl who hasn't been working much this semester, but who was there briefly tonight (not working). She was nice, and complimented my hair. I think. It was rapid, but I caught "sugoi." And my remarks on my love for the color pink seemed to fit into the conversation okay.

Got up extremely late today and washed my hair for the first time since the dye job. It's lightened considerably, but it is still quite pink--as I've said, the nice thing about pink is that it stays pink even as it fades. Also, it should be easy enough to redye without further bleaching in a few weeks--maybe I'll try the "Bubblehead Pink" from the same line, which seems a shade darker than "Party Time."

After styling it to my satisfaction (my "molding putty" seems to be the best stuff for the spiky back; of course I have a billion similar-but-not-quite-identical styling products), I walked downtown to run some errands--sent a bundle of mixes off to mogigraphia, deposited my parental subsidy, got some cash for the LJ meet-up tonight, and dropped off a form at the financial aid office--despite the fact that when I gave them a copy of my taxes and asked if I needed anything else, the girl assured me in quite definite terms that I had given them absolutely everything they needed, when I checked online today, the UW website informed me that I still needed to fill out a form about my funding for next year. Of course, it's still not totally DETERMINED, but there's not much difference between the pay for TA and PA positions, and they have the same benefits. So I just put down that I'd have a TA; it can always be changed later.

I also stopped off at Capitol Centre Foods for tea, as I forgot to get some at the grocery store yesterday with belleweather when we stopped there after hitting Michael's for yarn. I got some really nice stuff there: Lion's microfiber acrylic in turquoise and lime for sunhats, with some Bernat Boa in varigated colors that should go with both, and a Red Heart really soft acrylic sort of almost-chenille and more Bernat Boa for a winter-y hat and scarf set--the almost-chenille is black and the Bernat Boa is "Cardinal," a varigated black and red. I figure I'll trim the hat with it and make a matching decorative scarf. It will be very vampy.

I totally forgot that I was running dangerously low on tea, anyway, and clearly it is not a good idea for me to switch back to coffee, so I really needed to get some. The cashier complimented my pink hair, so I guess it's still remark-worthy even after being sadly shampooed.

And finally, I stopped off at the library and picked up some holds and a few trashy novels. Didn't someone on my f-list recommend Christine Feehan? feygirl, was that you? I picked up a couple by her, anyway.

Also, I am STILL congratulating myself for having the foresight to put on sunscreen before embarking on my errands. It's the little things.
