Day 8

May 12, 2004 21:53

I have been in the work release program for eight days now. Its not as bad as I thought it would be. Im not losing the feeling in my right foot, nor am I confined to some small area. Actually, its quite the opposite; the anklet is loose and I am allowed to roam here and there. You see, the anklet sends a radio signal to a box that I have to carry, which in turn acts as a beacon for one of the twelve satellites overhead. If I move too far from the box, then they loose track of me. But the distance isnt a problem; thirty feet when Im out of the house (work, school, etc.) and 150-250 ft. when Im home. At my uncles place, I sometimes go out of range if im in the gym or media room, but I havent had any complaints.

The best part of the whole situation is that they are pretty lenient with me. I have to schedule my activities in advance, so I asked for an hour block on saturday to go to the grocery store and the bank. The officer just gave me the entire morning, a few hours before I go to work, to get done what I need too. Hey, no problem here! I thought I was going to have to follow some rigid schedule, where if I slipped up, they would throw me in jail. Their bark is definitely worse than their bite!

Oh, and get this. I was sentenced to a year, 365 days in jail. Because Alachua county doesnt want to have to deal with the cost of puttin me up, they very willingly allow me to transfer my sentence to Pinellas county. Pinellas county is so overloaded, I easily gain entrance into the work release program. When I report for my first day in the program, I find out that I get 60 days gain time and 50 something days good time. So I get out Jan 14 instead of sometime next may! I probably would have gotten similar time deducted off my sentence in Alachua, But Pinellas time isnt hard time! I would now like to take a moment and thank all of those who came before me and clogged up the judicial system and jails, and just plainly caused such a mammouth amount of grief and expense to the government and common taxpayer...you are my savior, my jesus, my ambassador of qwan!

Dont get me wrong, being in this program sucks! Im just much better off than I thought I would be.

So, ill be off in time for the superbowl, gasparilla, spring break 05, and im very optimistic. I cant wait to have total freedom again, oh how I miss it. I cant wait to see g-ville on better terms and participate in the many parties and good times that I have missed. I have also been allowed to reapply for fall 05, so as long as all goes well, I will be a gator once again!

Cheers!
