Springboard 10 - Looking back

May 13, 2008 09:06

How did you get where you are today professionally? Did you always want to do the job you do now? Did you just fall into it? Do you have dreams of promotion? Another profession? Talk about it!

I've always wanted to be a constable, I never wanted to be anything else. As soon as I was eighteen I took the Police Initial Recruitment Test (PIRT) and then the Fitness test. I waited on pins and needles until the answer came back that I'd passed the tests. It seemed like forever. I joined straight away and I never looked back.

My career has been uneventful. That is to say, I've never handled extraordinary cases. Or cases that end up in the local media. I'm just a regular bloke that plods along and slowly but surely worked my way up to Detective Chief Inspector. I'm quite happy where I am now working for Causton CID. I'd rather not get any more promotions and work behind a desk. I have the best of both worlds. I investigate crimes and I'm a chief. You can't really get much better than that.
