Wikipedia tells me that glitter was invented by Henry Ruschmann on his Hereford cattle farm in Bernardsville, New Jersey, but not why.
A Brief History Of Glitter mentions Henry, but again, doesn't explain why he invented glitter. I'm just wondering why he needed glitter on his cattle farm. Maybe I'm just too curious for my own good.
The idea for this theme came about during the December Big Bang chat - we were lamenting the lack of glitter-related fic. The only one I could think of was
shrift's absolutely spellbinding
Refraction, a story that remains one of my constant favorites.
And we wondered why there weren't other stories - glitter fic should be like eyeliner fic - there to tease and taunt and arouse...
So, body glitter, glitter pens, tee shirts with horrendous glittery designs, glitter tattoos, glittery eyeshadow, Gary Glitter and
Rock And Roll, Part 2, Glitter the movie, the glitter of diamonds, glam rockers and glitter, the glitter of the Milky Way in a dark Canadian sky.
Find a moment in your favorite fandom that embodies the concept of glitter (however you may want to interpret that) and create a fanwork to illustrate that moment. Make some icons, write a fic, make a vid, compile a fanmix, create an interpretive dance (hey JS!), pontificate through meta, etc. Whatever you might want to do we will welcome with open arms.
This challenge is going to run until Monday, February 8th, 2010. Plenty of time to meet your Real Life obligations and still create a fanwork for the challenge.
