I had my eyes tested last week and unsurprisingly I was told I need glasses. I've thought there was something wrong for a while but I've been reluctant to have my eyes tested simply because I didn't want to be told I need glasses. The Roar game a couple of weeks ago was too much though - the combination of my vision being slightly fuzzy at a distance and the bright lights made the game quite difficult to watch and I felt unusually tired and a bit headachey after the game. So, had the test last week, glasses arrived today. Stupid glasses cost too much money and oh god, I look awful. I hate needing glasses. I feel like I've failed at life because my eyes aren't good enough. I hate the fact that the only frames I liked were Ray Bans and consequently $200 more than the basic range. I hate the way I look in glasses. I hate the way they feel on. I hate not having an unobstructed field of vision. The only positive thing is that I will hopefully be able to see which player is which at the game on Friday night. Last game I could only distinguish Seo, Reinaldo and Ognenovski because one is the only Asian in the team, the second is the darkest-skinned player in the team, and the third is six-foot-four, needs a shave and a haircut and every time he did anything my mother swooned and gushed because for some reason she's got a big crush on him. The rest of the players just sort of blended together.
Speaking of football, could the Central Coast game on the weekend possibly have been wetter? It made for an interesting game in a way - ball stopping dead when it hit a puddle and players aquaplaning across the pitch when they slipped over. In those conditions I'm happy enough with a draw. Looking forward to the New Zealand game on the weekend - I'm very interested in seeing Malik Buari play. And Jonti Richter, of course. We should also finally get to see Zhang play this week, and hopefully Dilevski will be back too. And yes, I know that those names mean nothing to anyone because I am the only person on LJ I know who follows the A-League. :-( Not that I blame anyone for not bothering with it. It's hardly the most thrilling league in the world.
Nothing happening on the netball front at the moment - the season is finally over. Club break-up went well, despite it pissing down rain. We've selected summer rep squads too and I have to gloat about something there: out of the nine kids I coached over winter, eight of them tried out for squads and all eight of them got in. :-D One third of the Under 14 squad all come from the one team. All I can say is that I pity the poor coach who ends up with that lot. The incessant giggling and gossiping is truly painful.
I don't have much to say about the Queensland election. The result is thoroughly unsurprising and as I have previously indicated I dislike both parties too much to really care at the moment. We voted at stupid o'clock in the morning on the way to somewhere else. Best time to do it as there are no queues. Sane people don't get up before 10.30 on a Saturday morning. We didn't get to pick a fight with any Family First people though - very disappointing.
