You know, I thought I couldn't hate Carlos Mencia more. After Comedy Central relegated Reno 911! to the position of Mencia's "backup," I thought there was no other way the station could piss me off about the man.
Well, not only does he have another season coming up, but in a new promo for this season, Mencia's taken it upon himself to say that someone declared him the "bad boy of comedy."
OH FUCKING PLEASE.
Bad boy of comedy?
Maybe criminal, but you're no Andrew Dice Clay, my friend. Nor are you anywhere remotely near Richard Pryor or George Carlin or Eddie Murphy. No reputable source of any kind would EVER... E-HEVER (to take a page from Dr. Cox, a single character played by a serious actor who is orders of magnitude funnier than Mencia) declare him a "bad boy of comedy."
Why?
Because of that key phrase "of comedy." He can fancy himself a bad boy all he wants, because that's just another way of saying he's a dick. And he is. But, he reaches out for the most offensive material to try and get cheap laughs and it never works. It's tired, old material that's been covered by hundreds of comedians far, far better than Mencia.
Mencia seems to prey on people's memory in much the same way the Bush administration has. If it's more than a few years old, maybe even a few months old, the general rule of thumb is that most people are too lazy to look it up or just don't remember it. And Mencia's jokes that don't outright tread on other comedians' material are as different from that material as Vanilla Ice's Ice Ice Baby is from Queen's Under Pressure.
But, the world has good things in it, too. Like The Beatles coming on Larry King Live, along with all kinds of old, good footage of them all. Carlos Mencia might be on TV, but so are The Beatles.
