To be fair (ha - which they're not!) the Christians are only going to be holding two two week festivals this year, cos so many people complained last year that they thought they'd... try and fob us off by only being incredibly loud every night for four weeks instead? Honestly...
I test-drove the sat-nav for a couple of hours this evening - with mixed results, in a way! It did a good job trying to keep me heading in the right direction for the first test, when I refused to go the obvious way it wanted. Then I think it got peeved with me, cos the next time I veered off-route it wouldn't calculate a different route, it just kept trying to make me turn around and go back on the same main road. Then, to show me who was boss, on the third leg I was impressed to find it taking me up my actual short-cut - only then it diverted me into even weenier back roads, which took much longer to come out at somewhere about 100yds further down from where my short cut comes out! Mind, I'd probably not have gone that way without it, cos that first turning was barely a road... *g*
I looked into using my phone, but it's not a very big screen, and it's never had a good GPS signal, so I decided it would probably be more trouble than it was worth trying in the end... That said, I'm going to need a new phone sooner rather than later too, cos mine's... blimey, at least six years old now, I think! No wonder she's struggling a bit...
I think I remember you getting this phone. HTC desire, or something similar?
I just updated my phone earlier this year, mainly so I could sign up for a free plan with Ringplus, which gives me 2500 free texts, minutes, and 2.5GB of data.
It's a Sprint offshoot, and the voice quality lacks badly, but texts and data work great most of the time. And the phone I bchose can be used in Europe, or switch to any Provider in the US, if I want to. It was an Amazon Warehouse deal. Somebody had sent it back, but there was absolutely no sign of use, and it works perfectly fine.
I remember when Mr. Siskiou and I drove in Ireland with a rental car that had GPS. It sent us onto smaller and smaller lanes, until it looked more like a footpath than anything else. It never did get us to the Burren National Park, but we finally found it after getting back to civilization and asking someone.
And it's nice and big, and the GPS works great, too. My old phone sometimes took 10 minutes to finally lock on the location.
