At home to-day and to-morrow

Oct 27, 2021 19:02

The rainy and cold weather has made me stay close to home to-day and I think to-morrow as well.

Strange way to spend a vacation.

I could have done a quick excursion this morning with the portable phone charged up, but I felt uneasy about it, so did not go.

I seriously doubt we will go to any movie theater show this week, but if it seems right we will do it.

To-day I did very little except go to the grocery stores. I went to Freddies twice--first thing in the morning to get a can of cat food to take care of breakfast for the five...then at 3 p.m. after going to Grocery Outlet to get everything on our list.

My portable telephone did charge up, as I said. First thing I did was delete all of the voice mails it received. The phone is not be used except by me for outgoing calls or incoming calls when I am away, so there should be zero voice mails or texts. It is also not for internet browsing or for taking photos. I have my GPD and camera for those purposes.

You may ask: why should I have a small computer and a pocket camera if I have these all-purpose digital devices that make phone calls? Frankly, I don't think these phones as multifunctional computers are as good as the separate devices. Even as phones these are difficult to use for their core purpose, but I have one now for emergency purposes.

Still looking for the usb cord and plug-in for the GPD Pocket 2, my modern-day Jornada replacement. I discovered the manual and box, but I did remove those two items. My original intent was to bring them with me but I decided not to do that and then set the cable and plug-in aside. Yes, but where?

I did pay a couple of bills and did some tentative cleaning of my desk. I think that will be my all-day task to-morrow while also looking for the GPD accessories, needed now because the battery is worn out! When I get used to using the GPD and cellphone...and charging both on a regular basis...I also need to get a small mouse I can bring with the GPD: nothing fancy, but something more than using a track ball or the double-click mechanism that is on the keyboard.

So, I am beginning to view this week as simply catching up with months of putting things off in order to complete needed mundane tasks.

Saturday and Sunday we expect less rainy weather, so want to tackle the blackberry invasion of our alley...and mow our back "lawn"...maybe even do some weeding and seeding.

As to my planned excursions--those will have to wait for a nice weekday I can arrange to have off. I want to do these on weekdays to avoid parking problems at trailheads.

I still have not heard from anyone at Neil Kelly. They did quickly cash my check! I will contact them again next week if I haven't heard from them this week. Meanwhile I have been rummaging through my emails for idea shots I gathered while at work.
* 1/3rd wall with outlets every 3 feet on both sides instead of a simple railing.
* Nice wood railing and ballustrades otherwise.
* Outdoor presentation of double-hung windows with storm window additions.

Also (for the future):
* genuine bathroom waiscotting and fixtures/door.
* medallion light fixture in living room with picture rail.

Coming back from the grocery store I see someone left a broken foldable chair under the blackberries in the alley. I removed it. If I had metulurgy skills I could fix it, but will probably just trash the thing.

Also yesterday noted that the real estate sign was removed from house80, indicating that it was sold. Good luck Pete Hays and companion! Welcome new owner (unless the owner plans to demolish the nicely restored home, which would be a bad move).

I took in some new magic lantern slides through the emovieposter.com auction yesterday but lost the 6 lobby cards for the desert movie. Just one of those cards sells on Ebay to-day for around $70, which is way too much for my budget...and so was the final bid for the six. I also noticed that one of the slides I will purchase is one already in my collection(Alarm Clock Andy)! It was in decent shape, so I shouldn't have bid on that one. One I lost, Aloma of the South Seas, I already had, but was severely messed up and the title was removed on that one. So losing that was a loss. I also missed out on Argentine Love, but I alredy had a decent version of that.
