Exploring

To-day Marisa and I will actually go somewhere, toting masks and my camera. I was given the day off by my company to enjoy what may be the last nice day in a while as rain returns tonight.

The primary stop will be the Pioneer Memorial in Champoeg, Oregon...a defunct town from the 19th Century which now serves as the focus for the Champoeg Heritage Center just southwest of Wilsonville, Oregon. I have two photos of the Memorial, one from around 1920, the other from around 1940. My goal is to take photos of the same building from, I hope, the same vantage points.

There is also the visitor center and a separate pioneer cabin adjoining the Oregon park.

On the way there hope to stop in Butteville to see the cemetery and take pictures of anything interesting, also visit the general store.

After leaving the park will take a different route to get back on I-5, then exit in Wilsonville to see the Korean War Memorial in Town Center park and stop at the McMenamin's Old Church and Pub before going home.

That is the plan, anyway.

We used to do this kind of thing before we were married, before Covid-19 and before we lost our parents. I miss that shared experience.

This will also allow me to do some journal entries--a years apart, and one, maybe one or two entries for people who lived in Champoeg and Butteville. No interesting photo opportunity in the area will be turned down. I don't expect to find the one room school house or the very cool 1905 Butteville school, but I will take anything from the same vintage I stumble across.

On the weekend will concentrate on cleaning up the inside of the house, putting out compost, cleaning the cat litter, vacuuming, cleaning the microwave and refrigerator, mopping the kitchen floor, getting into the basement.
