It was a record breaking high temperature for Portland, Oregon yesterday, but it won't stay. To-day should break it again with a projected high at 111 degrees Fahrenheit by 5 p.m.
To-morrow will be about the same before it cools about 20 degrees with high temperatures only in the 90s the rest of the week.
Marisa and I are trying to cope. Even with our air conditioning we can feel it.
I wanted to re-adjust my waking hours and sleep during the worst, but could not get to a graveyard on-hours routine...went to bed at 1 a.m.
Lost an ebay photo I only was not particularly wild about getting. It was a 1920's era jazz group (all white guys with one playing the banjo). The drum said they were "The Brownies" from "Pacific City Beach."
It was sold as a photo from Oregon, but Pacific City in Tillamook County was not the jazz-hot type of place in the 1920s. The seller said all of the photos obtained at the same time were from Oregon. However, this could have been the exception. Pacific City was earlier the name for a beach in Orange County before it was re-named Huntington Beach. I also ran across a card about a Pacific City near Burlingame, California, perhaps an earlier name for Pacifica. In any case, I had no historical information about it. It was a great picture, though...so I did bid.
Someone outbid me at the last moment, so just as well.
There is another photo, though, that I tripled down on...an important and unique one. If I get it then I will have a great story to tell. I spent a good deal of time yesterday and even to-day doing research around it.
About the only other achievements this weekend:
* paying all bills (this month is a bit difficult with insurance, car registration, a unnecessary doctor's visit and other expenses, but we made it).
* to-day--a shower.
I will try to do more:
* put out the compost.
* wash dishes.
I was thinking about vacuuming, but PGE wants us to avoid using too much power and vacuums do use a lot.
To-morrow I have a 9 a.m. meeting for which I need to prepare, so will try to get up really early and do that work.
