Connecting to the driveway

Oct 20, 2018 18:01

To-day I spent several hours doing a rough fill of the gap between the walkway and the driveway. I cleaned a number of bricks (and sadly, in the process, broke a few of them), tried to create a reasonable slope in the gap and then filled the bricks into the gap.

I also shoveled gravel off the landscape fabric to within 3 inches of the driveway blocks. The gravel and sand went to the center of the driveway.

The newly gained area in Marvin's Garden was cleared of weeds and bumps removed. Excess dirt was hauled away to fill holes under the north fence.

I will continue the gravel and weed removal for the length of the rock path, then:
* put down paper and landscape fabric for the new area to prevent weeds from growing.
* cut out the fabric by the sidewalk.
* dig a hole for the post and set the post.
* remove the rocks and put on the new area temporarily.
* flatten the bed for the rocks and add remaining landscape fabric.
* shovel in gravel from the center and make sure it is even.
* add sand and large rocks to get as even a walk way as possible.
* finish with sand.

Then work on the walk way:
* move bricks for the last half of the walkway to the new area.
* cut and pull up the landscape fabric.
* create an even slant to the base of the driveway blocks.
* lay down the landscape fabric and add more.
* add gravel from the center area and make even.
* when bricks can sit on the gravel and be 1/2 inch below the blocks, stop adding gravel.
* add 1/2 inch of sand and start placing bricks so they are as tight as possible and bricks meet the level of the blocks (remove extra gravel between blocks and bricks).
* finish off with sand including a slight slope of sand on the sides.
* tighten dirt around the side of the walkway to be level with the bricks.

Finally:
* do the other half of the walkway by digging down, evening, fabric, gravel, sand, bricks, support sand, dirt.

Do connectors to the side walkway and garbage area.

Remove remaining gravel and put in ground cover.

Put in north posts.

Add dirt to the driveway and sidewalk, plants, landscape.

Put in other sidewalk post.

Finish fence.

Then I can work on the sidewalkway and tetherball court.

landscaping, bricks, dirt, tetherball, walkway, sideyard, driveway, rocks
