I tried to donate platelets to-day and 45 minutes into the procedure my chest muscles were fluttery. This occurred immediately after I inexplicably started sneezing.
Best I can figure is that my body can not handle this procedure and it was telling me so.
I have to listen to this, and so did the Red Cross.
We tried to resume the procedure but my blood co-agulated, preventing the flow of blood outside my body (or into my body).
So my little incident was "The End" for this donation.
The woman who set me up for the procedure said I could try again and if it happens again we know for sure I can't donate.
I don't think I will try again.
I am proud to donate whole blood every couple of months. That I will continue to do. That is it, though: no platelet donation, no matter how they try to get me to do it.
This was my attempt. It was a failure.
