My Dad at 90

Just got back from a visit to Medford and Jacksonville, Oregon to visit my Dad. Emile V. Caloz is now more than 90 years old and hit the 9th decade mark on August 8th.

With the help of a walker he still gets around by himself, he reads, watches Perry Mason and other television shows. He has a pace maker and a hearing aid for his left ear (the right ear has been without the ability to hear since 1942 when it was damaged by the concussion caused by a Nazi artillery shell). Most importantly he has a great memory and seems happy, thanks mostly to his wife, Doris.

We visited with him at his home yesterday and at Elmers restaurant this morning. His two step-sons and their wives were at both visits as well...and his son-in-law and my brother-in-law. Yesterday there were many more family members from his current marriage as well as my younger sister. She and her husband gave Dad two bottles of wine from Cave Caloz, a Swiss winery. I gave him a CD I burned mostly from records in my library.

While here we also managed to shop a little in Jacksonville and eat there, first at La Fiesta Friday night and then Saturday morning at Jacksonville Inn. We stayed once again at the Library Room of the McCully House.

The drive to Jacksonville went very well. The drive back today was a bit tiring and was slow and go traffic from Albany north to Wilsonville on Interstate-5.
