Thunderstorms, Adventure and Biden

Jul 21, 2024 15:44

We had a little thunderstorm here and got a little much-needed rain this morning. Refreshing.

I followed up on the short story that was the basis for Milton Sills' movie "Framed," an April 1914 published story by George W. Sutton, Jr. in Adventure magazine, "The Dawn of My Tomorrow." Alas, it is not easy to find Adventure from April 1914 and that issue is not archived. Someone did a compilation book from Adventure issues in 1913 and 1914, but Sutton was not in the top list of authors. Yet, I ordered the book anyway because it is possible he was one of the authors in the "and more" category.

Someone posted a fragment of a page from the story but I would like to get the full story. If not republished, finding that issue will be on my list!

photoplay novels: 11
novels (not pp): 2+
digitized short stories: 1+
short stories published in compilation books: 1+
short stories or plot based on movies in magazines: 1
in-house and not photoplay: 0+
from produced plays: 0+
unknown:70
total: 86

These numbers need updating. I have been working on updating information about original stories. A few were done in-house (original screenplays) and a few based on plays (difficult to source). Besides a Liberty magazine story (difficult to source), many can be sourced because they come from Saturday Evening Post which has pdfs and text files on the Internet Archive.

I will go through all the movies to determine the origin, then try to find the original story. If I can digitize the original story and it is public domain, I can follow-through.

Part of the draw here is to point toward the author. The author of the Liberty story has an interesting story to tell.

President Biden decided today to not run for president. He endorsed Vice President Kamala Harris. Now all the concerns about Biden's performance by some Democrats can refocus on getting the party behind Harris and a vice presidential candidate, yet to be named. Let's build the blue wave and trounce the Republicans! Trump, meanwhile did his stupid poetry bit and said that Biden "ended his race with great disgrace." Yet, Biden let go for the sake of his party and for the nation, an act of selflessness that Trump would never do. Trump couldn't even admit to losing the 2020 election!
