Quick notes:
* Got out the garbage and other bins today. No glass. I will do that next week.
* Marisa broke down cardboard, so I can refill the recycling bin after pickup.
* Our recycling bin in the kitchen is full, so once again I can empty that after pickup of the big bin.
* Carpenters continue to work on the stairs. Most of the steps have treads made from a bull nose and a tongue-in-groove fir piece. Remaining is the landing and maybe two treads next to it? The large tread is done (the "platform" leading to the cellar).
* Poest says he will deliver the newel posts on Thursday. He confirmed to Leda by email. She had written him an email yesterday that spelled out the importance of getting the posts on time. The railing can be done the following Monday and the painter and electrician scheduled in turn.
* The tcl code I am writing at work was improved in a couple of ways, including one which will tighten the iteration cycle (which always helps me better enjoy the process of computer programming: there is little worse than the agonizing wait for restarting a tool or changing the environment just to test one small change to my code).
* Efforts to increase the efficiency of some skill code suffers from a barely tolerable iteration cycle which includes using a skill code profiler. I think it is maybe 10-15% faster from work on low level code. This is not enough, so will be looking for common data gathering between checks we can consolidate (do it once, store it, re-use it).
* Today: no meetings, and progress on the two things above means I can do some testing and test fixing today and still return to work on those other things.
* Marisa and I finished watching "Midnight Mass" with the 7th and final one-hour episode after watching the 6th. My two-cents: this is a landmark production whose story is found in the acting and less the words. It is found in the isolated town just as much as the faces of the characters. It introduces concepts not seen in movies or television before, yet relies on unspoken understanding of religion and vampiric lore without ever mentioning vampires.
* I had intended for Thursday to be the beginning of a re-watch of "Star Trek Discovery" leading to the 5th and final season debut in April 2024, but we will start today and then continue on Thursdays.
* We got a new cat food bowl that I threw into an Amazon order. It has pink base and a clear bowl with cat ears on it. The base is tilted and bowl is slightly tilted. The bowl fits on the base. It is meant to elevate the food and make it more accessible for the cat without extra bending of the spine. I tried it with wet cat food for Will but she didn't accept that: her food had to be in the white bowl for her to eat. So I am using it for kibbles at a different location in the kitchen. Goose and Venom like eating from it.
* The other two parts of that order are a cat water fountain and a camera that plugs into a PC which can be used to look into wall cavities. The cat fountain is destined to go into the back room and use a convenient plug (the only convenient plugs in the entire house will be in the backrooms!). The camera may be useful with my handheld computer for checking for water infiltration behind the walls in the basement or checking the backroom "attic."
* I actually got one of more than 50 in a series of magic lantern slides using stills from "The Sea Hawk." I think only 30 or so from the series was put up for auction. There are at least five people interested. From a scene rarity standpoint I should have ignored the whole thing. "The Sea Hawk" as a movie exists and available to purchase. Yet the colorized slides (not all are tinted) add an extra level of interest because the scenes in the movie may be, at most, tinted one color, but none are colorized. Because of the interest in these slides, it was difficult to purchase any for my usual amount, so I was content to capture all of the images of the slides offered and get at least one of them for me.
* Meanwhile I did get a still from another Milton Sills movie and also a scene from another through a post card. Also got a "making of" photo for "The Sea Hawk" which will be very useful for me.
* The Republikkkans have their bots going to sew doubt amongst Democrats when discussions are held regarding Trump. I am having none of that. Regardless of any doubts about Biden, it is clear that Trump wants to become a dictator, wants a nationwide abortion ban, hopes to destroy civil service and the upper echelons of the military and will prevent the world from combating climate change. Biden is completely opposite of this. Yes, it is also a choice between two elderly men, but making any other choice in a strong two-party system is making a choice that will likely benefit Trump.
