Floor and basement wall framing

Aug 04, 2023 21:01

The first floor, our laundry room, has subfloor plywood secured now! Also almost 2 walls in the basement have been framed today. One wall was framed as part of stablizing after the loss of the foundation wall. Maybe the concrete footing will be a feature with the drywall added above. Still have no idea how we will deal with the cellar door!

Meanwhile it looks like we will have a plumber. I have been looking at code for the dry vent stack which will need to be moved. I think it will work to re-pipe the stacks to the attic of the addition, then connect the two horizontally and go out the roof of the addition and continue up to terminate above the roof by at least six inches. It would be nice if we could run the thing through the wall on the 2nd floor and into the attic, then go through the roof so it would all be hidden. However, I don't think it is necessary to meet code and I know it would be a lot more work! I am only concerned with the distance of the termination of the stack to our 2nd story windows That distance needs to be at least three feet. We need to offset it from the apex of the roof to avoid the roof vent panel, so it will be closer to one window. Even then we can keep it a foot away laterally...and the attic roof would be another 3 feet vertically...then the six inches: it might just work.

The plumber ballpark estimate is that it would take half a day, but the vent may complicate that. Because our vent system works, I think we can trust we don't have to change the basic connections. We can convert the steel pipe to PVC, redo the structure to the attic, add a turn and then go straight up with a bracket on the siding and a bracket at the eave...plus a guard cap on top...so doing that work might require someone other than a plumber to complete the installation.

Somehow I missed a week of Star Trek or they threw in two this week. The extra one is musical?! Weird.

Work went well. The utility conversion to tcl is not complete but the end is in sight. My last email encouraged others to join in, but not sure I will have any takers: every one is super busy. I have been working after 5 every day this week, even today (although only until 5:17).

I will sleep well. The carpenters return tomorrow. On Sunday I want to pull off siding to prevent any more of it being destroyed and to help prepare for the plumbing estimate (I want to see what is behind that barrier under where the plumbing is).
