As I go to work

To-day we are asked to work from the office. Starting this month we work from one area where ever we can find a place.

After clearing out the area under the back room, I see the original concrete stairs that lead to the door and the concrete to the cellar. There are some assorted bricks and blocks I can remove, and some pipes to pull out, but it is now open.

The clearing out process was unsettling as I was clearly removing a nest animals used and assembled from leaves, twigs, torn cardboard and fabric. I was concerned animals would be there, but glad they weren't there!

I removed Thermex insulation boards that were just sitting there, possibly intended to go under the floor. It is possible that they used asbestos paper between the two one-inch thicknesses, but I doubt it. Those boards are expensive, so I hope to keep them after I repair the broken foil with high-temperature rated duct tape (which I got at Ace Hardware yesterday).

Instead of a plastic dryer vent, I want to put in the original metal one. It is banged up on one end, but I think I can fix that. I manually removed the lint but it still needs a good cleaning, then I need to work on the tube. I may just get another metal tube and graft it on.

The duct leading to the vent in the back room is well connected and sealed, as it should be. I think the best approach to capping it is to clear the boxes against the foundation and get on a step ladder to the duct. As it turns there is at least one sheet metal screw I can use a nut driver to remove. I hope that screw and possibly others will allow me to pull the ducts apart, then I can insert the cap I got at Ace Hardware.

Then it is a matter of removing the duct work and the vent.

Next: I have to clear a path to the electric panel and the water cut-off. I think I should plan to clean the cellar of unwanted things rather than just move things.

Utility folks will be here to mark underground lines (sewer, water, gas) or to indicate there are none (phone, internet, power).

Michael Johnson may claim the 1961 Ford Falcon Tudor by Wednesday, otherwise I will call to donate it.

Yesterday evening I won a publicity photo from a Milton Sills movie. This one is a "making of" photo with Viola Dana and the director (no Milton Sills). As expected, someone bid at the last moment, but my original bid covered it. Someone expected my bid was 32.33 (and it often is), but I did 35.66, so ended up being 34.33 plus postage and handling.

The other ebay item may not be successful--but I am trying. This other one is a glass slide promoting the silent serial Patria. Milton Sills was the top male star, but Irene Castle was featured in most of the publicity and was the top star of the serial.
