So much has been going on. And since I was stuck working till 7 and and am staying in my office till 7:30 to do a freelancing interview, I sort of have time to tell you about it.
Let's see, last week...so long ago. Early in the week, I had dinner with Amanda, a Ram editor in chief three generations after me, who was in town for a business trip. We had a delicious meal at Jaleo (mmm, mussels...) and it's always nice to see Ram alumni doing well and actually working in the field.
Last weekend was the trek to Ohio for my dad's retirement party. Jerry, practically a Frederick (we counted 10 times he's been to Cleveland with me), joined me, making for a considerably more fun road trip. We had the WORST FOOD EVER at a diner in Breezewood, including hockey puck sausage and the weirdest cheese bites ever (monteray jack cheese? ranch dressing?). We also had the fun aspect of Jer nearly falling asleep at the wheel and killing us both.
Dad's party was really fun, if random. He counted 87 people who came. The weather wasn't particularly warm enough for an outdoor gathering, but my parents essentially bullied people into staying outside, if not intentionally. There were some surprise guests such as my Uncle Bob from Connecticut, but mostly the expected teacher friends, neighbors and family. Hung out a lot with Abbey and her bf, whom I raelly liked, and played a lot of Euchre with the Frederick clan. My cousin Mark tried extremely ineffectively to teach Jerry the family card game, to amusing results. Uncle Bob made lemon drop martinis, and my dad made a sex joke during Uncle Joe's toast. The usual. The trip back was fairly uneventful, though it was fun chatting with Jer, whom I don't see as often as I'd like.
Sunday night was Andrej's party, which he thoughtfully planned around my Ohio trip, despite this meaninign that people didn't stay probably as long as he would have liked. He made an extravagant Japanese feast, including everything from mochi to spicy tofu to eel to gyoza. It was almost Missy-esque in extravagance, hehe. Coop came, as she had been apartment hunting in the city earlier, and a bunch of us played Taboo and Encore. Andrej's roommate was unnecessarily anal and passive aggressive but not enough to ruin the shindig.
Coop's been hanging out the past couple days trying to find a place. It's so frustrating and competitive. We have strategies, though (which may or may not be succesful) - as I've gone with her to a few appointments. She's in the running for this awesome place literally 3 DOORS DOWN from me, and should know tonight if she got it. If not, she's prob missing out on this studio b/c of having to be in NY later this week, so she may be back to square one. Wish her luck! We had fun hitting up Pizza Paradiso and getting Vietnamese for lunch. We also watched some "Weeds" which is a great show, it turns out. Who knew?
