So Lisa had a pretty awesome wedding.
You can check out either
my or
Brenizers photos, but it's still fun to tell you about it.
I don't have any plans to marry in a church, but if you're going to do so, it's hard to go wrong with the Fordham one, which is beautiful and lends itself to personal ceremonies (Fr. Currie gave a very nice homily about the couple, who met at Fordham). Lisa looked amazing, and I really liked her choice of bridesmaid dresses for her sisters, who served as co-maids of honor. Diana, who is studying vocal performance and has an amazing voice, sang for the ceremony, where she hit some unreal high notes.
There was a gap between the reception and the wedding, so Ry and I went back to the hotel and had a few drinks in the weird lobby bar, where the guy didn't know what a Manhattan was. We had a shuttle bus over to the wedding, where we got to ride with Lisa's parents, which was kind of neat.
The place was really beautiful. It had an outdoor patio, lots of pianos, two big rooms, a nice dance floor and a platform stage that housed the band. Cocktail hour began as we arrived, and once we were finished, we couldn't believe we still had a meal to get to! There were so many delicious appetizers. Carved turkey. A mashed potato bar. Gyoza. Calamari. Grilled dijon shrimp. Duck quesadillas (probably my favorite). Prosciutto-wrapped asparagus. Chicken satay. The list goes on. And the bartender was much better than Hotel Guy.
Lisa's sister and her musically-inclined boyfriend sang a charming duet to "I've Got a Crush On You", poking fun at Greg along the way. It was so adorable. Soon, we were ushered into the dining room, but this was no stuffy, sit-down dinner. First there was dancing. Then a salad. Then more dancing. Then a meal. We didn't eat dinner (I had a great medium rare filet mignon) until around 10.
The band featured a strong female singer, a great male singer who went out to the dance floor to get down to Billie Jean, and a mediocre female singer that didn't seem to belong (turned out she didn't, causing Lisa's family a bit of annoyance). Ryan and I attended most of the Fordham dances together and were known for our outrageous dancing, and this of course was no exception, though amusingly, some of the time Ryan was getting down while photographing (this may have made him a sale as a wedding photographer to one of Lisa's engaged friends. Lisa told us that people kept asking her, "Who are the dancers?" which of course fed our egos, hehe. I had a particularly good time swing dancing, as they played a lot of songs that were conducive to it. The band did a few adventurous numbers - "Crazy" by Gnarlesbarkley (sp?) and a less impressive take on "Blister in the Sun" (at least they tried). There was even an Irish-jig of sorts, and a soon-to-die-out conga line.
Getting a hotel room was such a good call; though I was wary of the expense, it made things so much easier and more relaxing (plus there was a Comfy Bed, much to Mandy's envy). We ended up skipping the after party, b/c I wasn't feeling that great, but turns out transportation issues got the couple there about an hour late, so we didn't miss much. We caught Lisa the next morning and got to wish her the best before her trip to Hawaii. Hope she's having a blast!!!!
