Final fencing reports

Jul 18, 2006 13:10

I officially quit fencing yesterday. I'm staying through the end of July, so that means two more lessons for me and then...nothing.

I don't think I'll miss fencing itself desperately. Even knowing last night it was one of my last lessons, the heat was oppressive, my back was bothering me and my lesson was kind of frustrating. Excitedly, Zack, one of our old classmates who went off to college, was back for summer break. Then he made some really ridiculous comments about Rent, bohemia, etc., and I lost some respect for him. Ah well. It's never good when college cements intolerance, when it's normally the most liberal part of a person's existence. I fenced Ed (who I think was holding back at the end), Ann Marie and Paulie, and worked a lot on feignts (sp?), at which I suck.

I will miss going to Underwood each week, but maybe we can start hanging on some Sundays or something. Kevin and I beat the heat by getting snowballs (sour cherry for me!) and Jess made a refreshing dinner of cold chicken and rice with grapes and oranges. Yum! I was happy not to have traffic, and happy that quitting fencing went smoothly (the fencing master Bin isn't always the easiest to get along with, or to get to understand you b/c of language barriers). Bruce told me about a fencing academy like 7 minutes from where I work! Unfortunately, it's like $120 a month. We'll see where this hobby ends up going: there's potentially still the Silver Spring studio.

In other news, today and tomorrow mark the continuation of the Garden Project. I'm trying to bribe some friends to come over tomorrow for Weeding Wednesday (YES fake events) but we'll see how effective that ultimately proves.
