“How many shows have we been in together now? Fifty? A hundred?” Sunyoung questioned as she laid back against the arm rest of a ratty old couch the production crew had helped her bring into her dressing room a few weeks prior.

Her hand wrapped tightly around a half eaten sandwich, hair thrown up in a messy bun; she knew there wasn’t too much time left before their first dress rehearsal but that was the least of her worries right then.

“Something like that,” Jinki answered back with a smile, already fitted into his wardrobe for the first half of the “show”.

“But it’s the first time we’ve ever actually played opposite each other,” she mused before taking a small bite of her sandwich and discarding it onto a napkin on the surface of the coffee table at their side. We always play brother and sister or… friends or nothing at all. It’s exciting, I’m excited.”

She watched him for some sort of response from the corner of her eye as she finally mustered the energy to get onto her feet, moving in the direction of her small wardrobe closet. “I’m excited too,” she heard him call after her as she opened up the door to grab her costume for her first few scenes.

“You’re not nervous though, right? I mean, we do have to kiss,” she paused as she laid out the dress against the counter of vanity. “Not that I’m nervous because I’m… totally not.”

“I’m not nervous,” his reply was rushed and she chuckled as she started to unbutton the top of the costume. “I’ll let you do… that, then. See you in twenty.”

Sunyoung barely caught the sound of a whooshing jacket tail and her dressing room door clicking shut as she let the breath she had been holding for the past few seconds out.

let's dance

For as long as Yuri could remember back, she'd been dancing. She could remember little detail of the first ballet class she'd partaken in; from the way that her teacher had greeted her right down to the embellishments of her leotard. Ballet had eventually turned into tap, which had turned into jazz, and then a little bit of salsa after the administrator at her primary dance academy had told her that she had "beautiful technique and a bright future ahead of her… but not enough oomph or sparkle to help her stick out amongst the countless other hopefuls out there."
She hadn't been exactly sure what "oomph" or "sparkle" meant until she'd hit college - until she'd been exposed to other styles of dance, specifically hip hop. Not that she'd taken it up or anything - no, that'd taken either a push or the courage to try something new and she didn't really have the advantage at either.

And then she'd met Kim Hyoyeon - or, maybe not "met" was the best way to put it. "ran into" was a bit more accurate. It wasn't often that you found someone "dropping it like it's hot" (this is how she'd put it when Yuri had asked what she was doing - though, apparently, it'd be a joke to break the ice between them) on the steps leading into the school.

She wasn't sure why Hyoyeon had taken an interest in her, but she had. One "sorry, I didn't mean to ruin whatever you were doing there" had turned into a smile, the start of a conversation, an introduction and not long after: an invitation to attend one of her hip hop dance classes with her. Yuri had agreed because it was rude to turn down an invitation that thoughtful - it didn't mean she'd absorbed anything she'd learned there properly yet though.

Two months. It'd been two months and she could barely even call herself more than a novice.

"You're wasting your time with me," was something that Yuri grumbled to her partner (which was what Hyoyeon had asked her to start calling her a week or two prior) two or three times a day. Hyoyeon usually just smiled and laughed in response.

"No, you're getting better," the blonde had a usually sunny disposition - something that Yuri couldn't help but admire. She glowed. "You just have to use that same confidence that you have when you're doing all of your jets or whatever."

"Jeté," Yuri corrected with a small chuckle, running a hand down her side before giving a small nod of her head.

"Jeté," Hyoyeon repeated back to her with a small wink before taking a few steps in her direction, virtually closing whatever distance had been left between them. Yuri turned her gaze downward just in time to catch her gripping one side of her waist, the other hand moving up to grab her hand before she quickly dipped her downward. Yuri resisted the urge to yelp.

"What…," she trailed off, flustered as the blonde pressed their foreheads together, the tip of their noses grazing as her lips turned into a sly grin. "What are you doin-…"

"I figured we could try doing something else for a change; maybe a little salsa? I know you've tried that one before," Hyoyeon replied back with a shrug. "Unless you're more into the lambada."

The forbidden dance. Yuri laughed awkwardly at the thought. "No, salsa's alright. Do you want to lead?"

"I thought you'd never ask."

"Lee Yooyoung, I swear to god…" Kim Hyelim trailed off with a snarl as her friend thrashed from one end of her mattress to the next - the sound of her feet slapping against the wall against her bed echoing throughout what was supposed to be a quiet, ghost friendly room.

A mass of dark hair popped into a seated position suddenly, arms crossing defiantly across her chest as she gave a firm shake of her head. "I don't see why I have to be - what have they ever done for me? Minus steal my niche."

"Oh, come on," another head appeared from the opposite side of Yooyoung's bed, chestnut locks flying in every which direction before letting out a grimace. "I'm pretty sure this ghos-…"

"Supernatural entity," a third voice corrected from the other end of the room. "I already told you, Chorong unnie, there's no proof of what kind of spirit it is yet. It could be a ghost, sure, but it could just as likely be a poltergeist considering all of the… havoc it's been wreaking on us lately."

"Havoc," Chorong repeated back with a snort. "I really wouldn't call knocking over all of your candles wreaking havoc, considering that Ah Ra knocks over everything comes in contact with, but… whatever you say. You're the expert here."

"She's the expert now? Wow, I'm going to sleep," the youngest of the group, lips turned downward into a deep frown, let out an exasperated sigh before digging her arms under her comforter and throwing it over the top of her head.

Chorong resisted the urge to laugh at the girl's dramatics but held it back for the sake of the other two who, as far as she could tell, were taking the situation far more seriously than any of their other friends had been. She wasn't a "nonbeliever" or anything but telling either of them that she'd come to their little ghost hunting escapade because she was genuinely curious about what was "going on" with their dorm hall would have been a lie. Honestly, she'd had nothing better to do.

"Maybe I'll just go to sleep too. I've had my EVP recording for the last ten minutes, you guys, there's no way in hell I caught any activity with all your blabbering." The other two remaining girls could pick up how irritable Hyelim was merely by the tone of her voice - and Chorong couldn't help but feel a bit guilty about it. All she'd wanted was some proof of… whatever she thought was going on and they were kind of spoiling it for her. At least, she was.

"You guys can do whatever, I'm staying up," Naeun spoke back up with a shrug as she draped herself against the bottom half of Chorong's bed.

"No, I'll stay up too." Chorong sighed, shifting herself into a cross legged position as the bleached haired girl on the ground beside them shot a fresh, almost genuine looking smile, index finger covering the record button of her EVP listener.

"Cool, but we actually have to stay quiet this time, okay? Don't even… breathe…," the girl trailed off dramatically as she begun the recording one again, her two friends taking her advice and preparing themselves for a few hours of (painstakingly annoying) silence.

It wasn't like anything was actually going to happen anyway, right? It was too easy.

A sudden shuffle from the other end of the room caused the three girls to remove themselves from their silence almost as soon as it had started - the sound of the youngest whipping her blankets off of her striking them before a shrill scream filled the room.

"You guys are terrible, who just touched me?!"

marvelous things

Victoria called it immature, Sunyoung usually rolled her eyes when they brought the idea up, and Amber was far too busy doing other things to really give her input. Krystal, though? Krystal thought it was the most brilliant idea she'd ever had - she had the moment it'd come to her and she still did now, as she took the final few drops out of her bottle of soju, the warm liquid trailing down her throat as she let out a hearty chuckle, nearly covering her best friend with little spit droplets in the process.

"That's so gross," Jinri let out, her voice dangerously close to a screech, before a wide grin broke across her lips. Krystal started to laugh again - the more did, the larger Jinri's smile grew.

"No, no, no," hands flying upward, Krystal splayed her fingers across Jinri's cheeks - flushed red from her inebriation. "If you let it get any bigger, your face might split in two!"

This only caused Jinri to laugh harder. "That won't happen, I'm the Cheshire Cat," she replied back, letting out a sound that sounded somewhere between a meow and gag.

"Of course you are." Jinri could be anything she wanted to be - if there was anything Krystal was sure of, it was that. "Should we go home now, honey?" She questioned, removing a hand from Jinri's face to point a finger toward large mound of blankets and pillows that they had draped over the chairs and couches of their living room an hour or two earlier.

This was what the other three members thought they were too mature for. Krystal scoffed at the thought as Jinri let out another giggle, nodding her head firmly as she started to crawl in the direction of the fort. "Of course, sweetie."

The duo had spend a countless number of hours from the day they had started to live together onward hiding under covers together, for various reasons. Because it was always nice to have a little extra warmth during the chilliest months of the year (this was what Jinri had told her once), because her hair smelt really good after she washed it and the scent helped her fall asleep quicker (Krystal had told Jinri this once - or twice, or give times) and because it just… felt right.

No one ever really questioned it either. They were just two teenage girls, best friends, who liked to cuddle into each other every (night) now and again. Sunyoung was known to join them from time to time too, but the difference between those instances and all of the times that they did it alone were quite vast. Hands never roamed Sunyoung was with them, nor did lips brush as often.

Following Jinri's lead as she situated herself under the roof of the fort, dropping her head back onto a stack of pillows, giggles begun to rise again between the two again. Krystal attempted to muffle hers somewhat as she curled up on her side next to her taller friend, flashing her a smile. "You think we have all night?"

"Oh, totally," Jinri replied with a firm nod of her head, craning her neck downward, breath ghosting across the other's cheek. "I'm pretty sure she's with Changmin oppa anyway and…," she trailed off, giving off a roar of a laugh at her unfinished reply.

"And who cares about the others, right?" A hand moved to her side as she finished off her question, Jinri's laugh softening down to a light chuckle as the space closed off between them - as it had so many other times in the past.

Her lips tasted of the leftover birthday cupcakes they'd gorged themselves with before their drinking extravaganza had begun - something that Krystal attempted to savor as she melted further into the kiss before pulling back, pressing her forehead gently against her best friend's. "Nah, I think we'll be alright without them for awhile."
