But then again, no.

I left work tonight three seconds too late to see a car strike a pedestrian in the middle of Roswell Road. I heard the telltale thump/crumple just as I came up to the intersection, and then there was a woman lying face-down in the turn lane, thrown out of her shoes, and the driver was losing his mind right there in the dark and the rain.

I'd never called 9-1-1 before, but there I was, and there was my phone. I was stuck in my car more or less at the scene of the accident until the emergency vehicles started to shift, which was more than long enough to reflect on why anyone would cut across a five-lane road, during rush hour, on a rainy night. But now that I look, there doesn't seem to be a crosswalk at the light, either.

I'll look tomorrow, but in any case, ominous1 (:) patterns (::) are (:) developing. Please be careful.

1. What you probably can't see is my first and favorite cousin's post on the recent death of her beautiful cat Sasha, at age 15, last week. I don't like where this is going.
