A day in the life of America (today's news)

321 Studios, which makes software to allow you to make backup copies of DVDs, which is a legal right, was sued into bankrupcy by Hollywood.

The FCC moved to expand the governments ever expanding surveillance powers into internet telephony.

TiVo users now have the ability to copy digital programs for friends and family. (A legal right established since the 1984 Betamax Supreme Court case.) Oh yeah, you have to register your associates with TiVo first though.

40 States' Attorney Generals sent a letter to P2P companies threatening them, despite court cases ruling that they aren't responsible for the files their users download. This is comparable to suing Ford for you running someone over in your car. But hey its, "for the children."

The makers of a flash animation mocking Bush and Kerry have sued the people threatening to sue them to keep them from exercising their legal right to parody a song.

I've got no witty comment or pithy summary to add here, I'm just disgusted with this shit.
