The Tourist of India

Dec 10, 2008 10:11

So i've finally found some internet access.  We've been traveling from Delhi to Jaipur, to Agra the last few days.

I think there's way too much to write about right now.  It will have to be when i get back and rested.  Summarised to an incredible experience.  We bought a packaged tour around the Golden Triangle and are nearing it's completion.  Every moment we spend at tourist locations makes me feel completely cynical about the people of India.  Whenever we go off the 'official' tour route, i feel like we're actually visiting India, and not contantly getting ripped off.

So far the highlight must be Jaipur.  The hotel there was by far the best i've ever experienced.  The host was incredibly gratious and did not hesitate in putting us ahead of anything he was doing.

We've been traveling with a driver, Hari.  At first we were really happy with his service, until we realised he was scooping a fuckload off money off us, taking us to inflated tourist restaurants and not supplying the advice we needed.

I'm in Agra after just having TRIED to see the Taj Mahal.  Fog reduced visibility to about 10 metres around.  The only thing we really saw was Jane, Pam, Jen and Rob appear out of the fog in a running Pam love hug.

We are in Agra the rest of the day and at night we will travel by train to Varanasi.  I'm a little worried about that place, as it is suppose to be pretty hard to navigate if u're a foreigner.  But with Joni, i'm sure we will get through and have a worthwhile experience.

We'll be there from tonight until the 16th, where we catch a flight to Mumbai and train to Goa.
