5. Would you have the flu twice a month if you were paid $1,000 for having it?
1. I don't know if it's considered "sick", but I was without my voice for 4 months (right before my wedding) and then off and on for a couple months after. Otherwise....pneumonia when I was a kid?
2. Anything - I don't want to get sick. I want to die of old age.
3. I hate shots, but will get them (as a last resort) if they will help me feel better.
4. Yes - charlatans; they usually just tell me what I already can figure out for myself ("you have an "upper respiratory infection", aka - a cold), or can't tell me anything useful (like why I keep losing my voice)
5. Yes, I think I would only because my loving husband pampers me when I'm sick.
Speaking of not being able to speak...
My anniversary was a success despite my not having my voice. It's been
gone for a week now (left me the morning of my anniversary) so the white boards have come out to stand in as my voice for now when I don't have B around to translate.
So the good and the bad about not having my voice:
Bad: B hates it. It frustrates him to have to try to translate and pull the words out of me.
Good: Not having to answer the phones at work.
Bad: Not being able to yell for help when you're on horseback and getting stung by bees.
Good: Not having to return phone calls from people who annoy me.
Bad: Not being able to yell at people who piss me off (It just looks like I'm talking to myself and gesturing wildly like when I'm alone in the car - crazy lady).
Good: The amusing reactions that I get when I communicate that I can't speak.
Examples:
They suddenly start to speak to me in a whisper or softer voice. (I guess to compensate for me talking no louder than a whisper?)
They talk louder, thinking I'm deaf and can't hear them either.
They start using their hands and gesturing more while they talk to me.
and finally,
Bad: People make more jokes and pick on me.
Good: People are nicer and smile more at me.
Here's another good (unrelated):
It's Friday and it's Pay Day!
Happy Friday all!
