This morning I realized that if the study I manage evaporates I have no backup plans that do not involve either winning the lottery or joining the French Foreign Legion.
Now that they've had me officially back full-time for most of the last year (as opposed to unofficially/uncompensated for the year prior) the Company is likely going to want to keep me that way to build up other areas of the business. There have been inquiries regarding my preference. It sounds absurdly silly to suggest that I might give it all up during a recession so that I could write full-time. The Industry doesn't sound all that welcoming at the moment.
My response to the Company was that if "full-time" ever meant working less than 80 hours a week, remaining as such would be far easier to contemplate. Obviously, money is a factor. I rather enjoy paying down my debt and restoring my savings. There are other perks, like making rent. And eating.
The revised Plan A -- since I have only the one plan -- is to keep working and return to writing on nights and weekends. That's how I got started. I'm not sure how to balance that out with dating, but I'll figure something out.…
