An open letter
Dear Hysterics of America,
Can we please dispense with the tired and useless comparisons of people we don't like to Hitler, Nazis or the Third Reich? It didn't make any sense during the previous administration and it doesn't fit the current one either. How can I be so sure? Simple: nobody in either administration annexed a neighboring country, invaded another, launched a global campaign of aggression that's resulted in the deaths of well over 23 million soldiers (and that was just Russians) or systematically exterminated 6,000,000 Jews, homosexuals, dissidents and other "undesirables."
If you find that you don't like what an administration is doing, address your complaints to the issues themselves. Attempts to cast the people you don't like in the light of the single most destructive government in world history is histrionic and completely derails any chance you may have had to persuade others with a logical or well-reasoned argument. In reality, these analogies thoroughly undermine any rational argument you could have made because you've gone and demonstrated a total lack of historical understanding, or sense of perspective.
