Looks like I'll be spending a lot of time in theaters...

A precis of the upcoming summer movie season...

May 2: IRON MAN ("Let's face it, this is not the worst thing you've caught me doing.")

May 9: SPEED RACER (come on, it's the Wachowskis first directorial effort since THE MATRIX trilogy)

May 16: THE CHRONICES OF NARIA: PRINCE CASPIAN

May 22: INDIANA JONES AND THE KINGDOM OF THE CRYSTAL SKULL (no-brainer, huge hit.)

June 13: THE INCREDIBLE HULK (Yes, another Hulk. Yes, I'm going anyway.)

June 27: WANTED (Angelina. Über-cool assassins. 'Nuff said.)

June 27: WALL•E (Pixar has never let me down.)

July 2: HANCOCK (anyone want to bet against Mr. Will "I Own The Fourth of July" Smith?)

July 11: HELLBOY II: THE GOLDEN ARMY (support the comic pictures, kids.)

July 18: THE DARK KNIGHT (the new Joker? F*ck yeah!)

July 25: X-FILES - I WANT TO BELIEVE (not a huge fan of the series, but I'll check it out)

Hell, I'll probably even see THE MUMMY: TOMB OF THE DRAGON EMPEROR on August 1. Even though the second MUMMY picture blew chunks, the first one was fun enough I'm willing to give the franchise another chance. Besides, after that many consecutive Fridays in a theater, I'll probably drift into a matinee on auto-pilot.

Here's why this summer is so freakin' cool: FIVE of the above are super-hero flicks, or inspired by the genre. Another four are based on fantasy/geek/animation driven franchises.

Why is this cool?

Geeks OWN the cinema. We're driving mega-million dollar franchises, and steering the collective consciousness. We're behind the wheel!

Sort of...

Why the caps? It's habit; the Industry often uses it to delineate movie titles. I've picked it up.

heroes, movies, geeks
