Today if you looked outside my window it might seem as though Mother Nature was a bit schizophrenic today. This morning it was cold, dark and dreary. Then this afternoon it was bright, sunny and mild. Now this evening it is dark, rainy and dreary again.
I am reading - One nice perk of being the person who orders all the books is that I get to see all the new books when the first arrive at the library before they are processed and checked in. So...sometimes, okay a lot of times I get to take them home and read them before they are processed and before they are even out most times. Last Friday was one of those times. I took home Explosive Eighteen, the new Janet Evanovich book. They are so easy to read but so much fun! This one was definitely better than Smokin' Seventeen. Still reading Maphead. Wish that I had more time to sit and read it because it isn't fast reading but it is great reading. Have a ton of books at home that I am hoping to make a dent in over the weekend but it is doubtful since we will be pretty busy.
I am creating - ummmm...nothing. I have had time to work on my needlepoint but just haven't been motivated to do so. Need to find my crafting mojo again.
Plans for the week/in the Kitchen -
Monday - I am working 1 - 9 (my Reference Librarian took the week off, can't complain since he always covers for me when I ask him to). Went grocery shopping this morning with a friend. Makes it much more fun to have a friend along. Jeff was supposed to go to Karate with the kids but Hannah stayed home to practice her clarinet and Jeff ran back to the office. I am missing karate this week. Boo.
Tuesday - I think we have nothing going on at night. YAY! Need to work on straightening up the house and doing laundry. I got some fresh ground lamb at the store this morning so I am going to make lamb patties along with roasted cauliflower and a crock pot version of curried potatoes and peas. Hopefully it will be good.
Wednesday - the Library is closing at 7pm so instead of working my usual 1 - 9, I am working 11 - 7. Will probably hit the supermarket again for some more produce and breadstuff for the weekend. I hate buying it all so far ahead. Jeff's parents invited us out to eat but honestly we are going to be eating all weekend so I think we might pass. Besides, we have smoked meatballs in the freezer that I want to make with some spaghetti and a quick tomato sauce.
Thursday - we are going to Jeff's Uncle's apartment in Manhattan. Jeff's parents, his brother and sister-in-law and niece as well as his other aunt and uncle will be there. It will be nice but a bit stiff and formal for me. I am bringing a pumpkin pie.
Friday - my family (Mom, Dad, brother, sister-in-law, niece and nephew and sister will be over. We will not be having turkey. I got a nice piece of roast beef that I will marinate overnight in some combination of maple, sage, rosemary and orange juice. Along with it we will have gingered green beans, braised kale with pinenuts, probably roasted potatoes with sage and salad. Oh, and stuffing. Jeff hates stuffing so I only make it when he's not home but for Turkey Day I am making it! Very excited because I found cornbread cubes that are Parve (neither meat nor dairy) so I can use them for stuffing! Usually the prepackaged cubes have butter or milk in them and cornbread almost always has milk in it. YAY! For dessert the kids will help me bake blondies and maybe chocolate mint brownies. My mom loves anything with chocolate and mint in it.
Saturday - is the second annual Leftovers party at our friends' Jason and Allison's house. We'll take whatever leftovers we have from Friday and if need be will cook up something else to bring.
Sunday - no plans. We are making Thanksgiving for us! Just the four of us! Turkey our way and all the fixings the kids want. Mashed potatoes, rutabaga, kale, brussels sprouts, whatever they want.
In my thoughts/on my mind - is Hannah. She is having so much trouble finding her place this year. A girl who has been in her class or afterschool care since kindergarten had her birthday party this weekend and Hannah wasn't invited. I don't know why and it doesn't matter but she was so sad about it. It breaks my heart to see her left out so. She is so young for 11 sometimes and sometimes she is so grown up. I wish that I could just make it all better and I can't. This is such a tough year. One of the other moms said that next year will be better because they are with more kids and new kids so the cliques reform and hopefully she will mature a bit over the summer so she will fit in better. Also on my mind is my darling son who doesn't think he needs to wear his glasses and seems to have misplaced BOTH pairs again! Oh that boy!!!!!
Hope everyone has a great week!
