A close encounter of the nightclub kind

So, those of you who know me in real life know that at times I can be a tad bit backwards. I'm from a town of 7000 people originally, attended a Baptist university for undergraduate and am now living in the fourth largest city in the U.S. of A. and it all comes down to learning about new forms of nightlife. In the hometown we would hang out at Dairy Queen or Whataburger, and those were pretty much the only choices. At the university there were a lot more options but I spent most of my time at the music building, the library, or a coffee shop with friends near by. And now I'm in this big city.

So, last Friday night I went with some girls from church to a country-western dance club. Again, this is probably giving the rl friends some pause, I really don't care for country-western music or dance clubs, although I love swing dancing. Anyways, after getting really lost going to dinner (note: remember the names of the streets you need to turn on and keep your eyes open for the signs for the restaurant) my friends and I ended up over at this club. It was ladies night, which meant that the first 200 ladies received a free pass good for the next three months. So we stood in line from about 8:30 until just after 9:30 waiting to fill out our little cards. We were numbers 57-62, skipping 60. And now was the time for the fun. Oh wait, no, I had a guy come up to me while we were standing in line to tell me that I was perfect. Yep, perfect. Of course, he was old enough to be my dad, but I'm sure that's beside the point, surely he wasn't completely drunk that early...right? I'll kill the suspense now, I spent the whole evening avoiding eye-contact with the creepy-old-guys (cogs) and one particularly dirty-old-man (dom). No dancing, just standing around shouting to be heard.

Evidently, the younger crowd that shows up to this place only does so for hook-ups and they don't actually dance. Now, I don't mind an evening out at a bar, but I'd rather just go to a bar where I can sit and talk to my friends and actually hear what they're saying. I'll probably go again just because I have the free pass and see if going with some of the guys from my singles group makes it easier...or if not being there on ladies night makes it easier.

Hope you're all having a great day!
