I saw the psychologist again today, it was kind of a pointless session because I was so zonked out on my new meds. They make me insanely sleepy and unable to function. I stayed at Beccas for a couple days and she got up with Aisy for me so I could sleep more and adjust to the meds. I think it's too high of a dose though. I need to be able to ( Read more... )

Wait, they started you on 120 mg of Geodon in a single dose? That's nuts. My box says that a normal starting dose is 40 mg twice a day, that for bipolar mania it should be raised to 60 mg or 80 mg twice daily on the second day of treatment, and that it should subsequently be adjusted within the range 40-80 mg twice daily. However, I suspect that's assuming both an average-size person and a need for immediate control of a manic episode. I'm petite enough that my doc started me on 20 mg twice a day, then 20 mg in the morning and 40 at night after a week or two, then 40 twice a day after another week or two.

Because of how it was affecting my sleep cycle, I now take 20 mg in the morning, 40 mg with dinner, and 20 mg near bedtime. You might want to try something like that--assuming your doctor is having you take it twice a day, which he should be--taking a small amount of your dose in the morning and most of it in the evening.

Also, remember that Geodon needs to be taken with a meal for maximum effectiveness. I'll sometimes just have a big glass of chocolate milk with my evening dose, but technically it should be taken with a 500-calorie meal.
