Answering the all-important question: "Who in the world are you?"

In a former LJ incarnation, I was known as sujata. She is still a part of me -- but she is not the sum of me. The story of Sujata was appropriate as a metaphor for my goals in life, but there is more to me than only my goals, so the metaphor began to feel too limiting. And, as well, over time that journal acquired some bad memories I prefer not to think about every time I sit down to write a journal entry or read my Friends page. History should be learned from, not lived in.

So here I am, one season of my life at an end and another beginning. And though my goals for my life have not changed, I hope my goals for my journal are better defined this time around.

My goals are to live a quiet, decent life; write about it in a quiet, decent journal; invite decent (not necessarily quiet) people with whom I have mature or growing friendships to read about my thoughts and feelings and the events of my life; benefit from the perspectives and support of my friends and give the same to them in return; keep track of what is going on in the lives of my friends; finish my bachelor's degree, graduate from law school and pass the bar exam, and as a criminal defense attorney try to change the justice system for the better.

Or, in other words, this is meant to be simply an online journal, not a shooting gallery. Feel free to give me your honest opinion of anything I write here (or in graceful_flow, my fiction journal, for that matter), but please don't take anything I write personally, because it's personal only to me. And I'd also like everyone on my Friends list to play nice together, even when they disagree with each other.

After all, we're all in this thing called Life together. Let's act like it. =-)
