If you're positive you want to go into journalism some day, then I could see how an English degree might be more useful, but I really have no idea what I'd do. Sorry. Hope all goes well.
I can't really help you with your school woes, as I never went to a proper college - hell, I never went to a proper, accredited high school, for that matter - and while I continually make noises at myself about going to/back to school, I see no purpose in giving you advice on something I've yet to do myself
