Mr Darcy, Vampyre

Watching ep 11 of season 1of NCIS tonight and the NASA geek-love is very cute. I'm pretty tired after last night's intensive spinning class. Was dead on my feet after it, and fell asleep by 23:30. Which meant that Iwoke up at 06:00 this morning! So I should go to be asap.

Finished Mr Darcy, Vampyre  by Amanda Grange yesterday, and I rather liked it. It differs from the usual Pride&Prejudice continuations I've come across, and she really plays with all the gothic tropes.I liked her take on the vampire mythos, but felt that Mr Darcy should have been older than he actually was for the book to make more sense. It's a  gothic road-movie about Darcy&Elizabeth's wedding journey,  which starts out with them heading for the Lake district but very soon turns into a  gothic grand tour, where they meet up with Darcy's Uncle Polidori, and many other slightly preternatural characters. I loved the Venice scenes, but I also see the problems that many of the reviewers point out. The characters are a bit flat, and the interactions between them lacks something. But the writing is quite good, and the settings are fun, and there was a rather eery feeling all through the novel. The author likes the Gothic novels that she's referring to, and actually takes them quite seriously. it's not a parody in any way, more an homage to the genre. I had fun reading it, and that's the main point no? I liked that it was dedicated "For Catherine Moreland", and I could definitely see Henry Tilney finishing it in two days - with his hair standing on end the whole time.
