Two points of interest

John, Olivia and I were on our way to Farmer's Market in Santa Cruz when I stopped for a pedestrian waiting at a cross walk.
The black Ford Focus stopped behind me, but the silver Honda Accord unfortunately did not.
The Honda lady was a sweet, old grandma whose house John had actually worked on 100 years ago when he was an electrician.  She was already shaken up about having rear ended us all, but almost started bawling when I pulled Olivia out of the car.
The Ford guy was just mad the whole time. His girlfriend/wife was really quiet the whole time. Felt bad for her.

Nobody was hurt, though the Honda was totaled and the Ford had to be towed away as well as it was rendered un-driveable.
If you ever need a reason to buy a Subaru for its 5 start crash test rating...Exibit A!  When I walked around to the back I 100% expected my bumper to be dangling but it just looks like I backed into something.

Ironically the crash happened maybe 500 feet from my insurance office so I swung in after it was all said and done and filed paperwork.
I'll need a new bumper and maybe a new spare tire cover, but considering how the other cars looked I'm happy with that.

I also learned that in California its the law that any car seat involved in an accident will be replaced by insurance (Woot!) so Olivia gets a new car seat!  I'm just going to buy the exact same one because it worked perfectly.  I'm not looking forward to submitting a $300 car seat bill though because I'm pretty sure they're going to be all "WTF!?", but I shelled out big money FOR SAFETY and that's literally how much that fucker costs. Deal with it!

Point of interest #2:  These twin cuties may soon be under my tutelage. Their dad (John's brother) has an interview with a private contractor/mercenary type outfit in May and if he gets the job will be deployed for 345 days at a time.  Their mom is active Army (for the past 15 some-odd years) and is currently a Medic training to become a Flight Medic and will be on active deployments as well. Hers probably won't be AS long as his, but who the hell knows - especially if North Korea keeps acting up.

Honestly, I would much prefer to watch these two well behaved kids than one unruly Screamy, but it's still blowing my mind that this might happen.
They were thinking of asking the wife's parents, but they're both in their 70s and I don't think that would end well.

We're still just in the talking-it-out stages, but the interview IS happening and I'm pretty sure he'll get the job. This may end in a temporary move to Texas for my family as they own an actual house and our place is entirely too small to have 5 people living in it.
I'll keep ya updated as I learn more I suppose.
