Chapter One |
Kouyou was already feeling restless after all that had happened. But despite of what he’s feeling, he does his best to stay awake-fear getting the best of him as his thoughts drift on the consequences of what can happen once he falls asleep. Kouyou can imagine himself dreaming about the horrors that happened in the building where he was currently in.
The moment Kouyou and Yuu were taken in the building, Kouyou immediately noticed how old the place really is. Judging by the scattered equipment in a room they passed by earlier, he confirmed to himself that the place used to be a hospital of some sort.
Kouyou stared at Yuu’s steadily sleeping form on the bed across him. Yuu passed out almost an hour ago-no doubt because of the wounds he acquired. Kouyou had a lot of questions for the mysterious boy, but he was still unsure whether he could really trust him. Yuu may have helped him at some sort-being aware of the worse things that could’ve happened-but he can’t let his guard down. He can only rely on himself now.
“What have I gotten myself in to?” Kouyou whispered to himself as he closed his eyes, feeling angry and remorseful at the same time.
It didn’t take long before Kouyou gave up and let himself drift away to sleep.
----
Yuu woke up as he felt the heat of the sun’s light cover up his face. He tried to sit up-slightly wincing as he felt his body ache. But as he caught a glimpse of Kouyou sleeping uncomfortably on the chair across him, he endured the pain he’s feeling and managed to prop himself to stand up-taking the blanket with him.
Yuu wasn’t strong enough to carry Kouyou because of the bruises he acquired, but that wasn’t the entire reason why Yuu didn’t want to transfer Kouyou unto the bed.
“I’m sorry, Kouyou.” Yuu whispered as he wrapped the blanket around Kouyou’s body.
“It’s been a while, huh?” Yuu continued; risking the fact that Kouyou might wake up sooner if he won’t stop talking. Yuu knew that the sooner Kouyou would wake up, the sooner he would have to answer the other boy’s questions.
“You probably don’t remember me.” Yuu grinned bitterly at Kouyou. Who was Yuu trying to fool? Yuu was perfectly aware that Kouyou didn’t remember him at all. But there was something inside of him that hoped; that somehow Kouyou would’ve remembered a fragment of him. After all, Yuu couldn’t blame Kouyou if he didn’t remember him. Yuu never told him his name.
“I’m so sorry, Kouyou.”
Yuu was very guilty.
Was it too late?
A tear fell effortlessly from Yuu’s eyes-landing on to Kouyou’s soft hand. One of Kouyou’s fingers twitched as the cool drop of liquid made contact with his skin. Yuu saw the reaction of Kouyou’s finger and hurriedly wiped the wet trail on his face. Yuu then limped his way towards the door-leaving Kouyou all alone in the room.
----
A soft knocking sound woke up Kouyou. Usually, he wasn’t easily woken up as he was a heavy sleeper. But the place didn’t really ease him to sleep soundly like he used to.
Kouyou rubbed his eyes-trying to relieve the blurry view. Upon being successful, Kouyou then realized that Yuu wasn’t in the room with him.
As the soft knocking sound continued to fill Kouyou’s surrounding, he just clutched on to the blanket wrapped around him without even being fully aware of the object’s existence as his thoughts traveled deep. Kouyou thought that it was just Yuu who was knocking on the door. But he was immediately proven wrong as he heard a voice that definitely didn’t belong to the boy he was referring to.
“Yuu? Are you there?” The voice sounded like it came from someone younger than Kouyou.
Kouyou quickly got on to his feet and walked towards the door. Upon the opening of the door, there stood a little boy wearing a puzzled look as he didn’t expect to see a stranger in the room of the person he came for.
“Is Yuu here?” the boy asked nervously.
“I’m sorry, he’s not here.” Kouyou replied as he eyed the boy with curiosity.
“Do you know where he is?”
“I’m afraid not.” The boy just frowned at Kouyou’s reply.
“He was supposed to take me to my brother, today.”
“Oh.”
“But since he’s not here, could you accompany me instead?” both Kouyou and the boy stared unto each other’s eyes-the boy wore a pleading look while Kouyou wore a hesitant one.
What if this was only a trap?
Kouyou was a complete stranger, but it seemed that the boy didn’t mind that at all. Kouyou thought that this was some kind of trick-a form of deception that only low people would do.
Yes, the man last night said Kouyou wouldn’t be killed. But that wasn’t enough for Kouyou to be unfazed.
The boy was still waiting for an answer-the pleading look still present in his eyes.
In the end, Kouyou nodded at the boy.
Kouyou just followed the boy as they walked on the quiet hall-passing by old rooms. Kouyou eyed the boy as the boy just skipped on in front of him. Kouyou wondered how the boy, at a very young age, ended up here.
“We’re here.” The boy said, giving a light smile as he stared on the door. Somehow, Kouyou felt that despite the boy’s smile-the boy was not really happy at all.
The creaking sound of the door echoed through the hall as it was opened by the boy in a gentle manner. The boy hurriedly went inside the room, while Kouyou just stood still by the door-confused.
The room only contained a bed and a nightstand.
----
“Let him go.” The man only laughed at Yuu’s statement. Yuu didn’t seem to be disturbed by the man’s foolish reaction towards Yuu’s serious tone. Yuu was aware that he should remain calm and refrain himself to snap at the man who tortured him, especially if he would want to save himself from another round of beating, which he does.
“You are crazy.” The man grinned at Yuu before taking out a cigarette then lit it.
“Please.” Yuu added monotonously.
“It’s a small world isn’t it? Of all the people who could’ve stumbled here, it had to be him.” Yuu didn’t say a word and just stared at the man.
“I can’t understand you. Why would you want me to let him go? And why should I?”
“He’s innocent.” Yuu whispered, but it was still loud enough for the man to hear.
“Innocent? Isn’t he the reason why you ended up here in the first place?”
“I didn’t blame him.” Yuu was already shaking-both in anger and in sadness. He was aware that what he said was a lie, and he knew he couldn’t deceive the man with that answer.
“You and I both know that’s a lie. You weren’t able to resist. You could’ve showed him the way out through that warehouse. He could’ve been so far away from here. But something deep inside you took over. There was a side of you that truly blamed him. You got the chance to make him suffer and you took it.” Yuu covered his ears and shook his head as he tried to block out everything that the man told him.
Everything the man said was true.
