Kase was still in a delightfully good mood since the new year had just started. She had taken to walking through the halls and trying to greet all of her friends. She was just now leaving the kitchen, having quite enjoyed her lunch. Her mother did not prepare any meals even half so good as what was available to eat at the Institute at all hours, every single day ( ... )

Aleida nearly had the answer to her latest question (what is the most common isotope of sodium) when she was suddenly interrupted. Quite surprised, she looked up to see exactly who was greeting her. When her eyes fell upon the very girl she had fallen on the day before, Aleida felt all the bravery fizzle out of her. She hadn't expected to have to see her again, or at least not so soon. She had anticipated that her pride and dignity would at least have a chance to nurse their wounds, but no. Aleida silently cursed a god she didn't believe in, trying to adjust her face to look less sour ( ... )

Kase smiled kindly as she watched the other girl. She remembered well enough how strange everything had seemed when she'd first arrived, even if it had been years ago. She couldn't imagine only just now finding out about the Institute; it was homeIf she'd thought about it, she would probably have understood how uncomfortable this situation could potentially be for the other girl. She had fallen on her rather clumsily in the middle of Kase and all her friends, after all. But Kase wasn't really much for remembering something like that. No point worrying about the past, really ( ... )

Aleida did her best to pay attention to Kase, even if she had a book full of information on her favorite subject. She was tempted to shut it, but perhaps that would give Kase the impression she was ready for a "chat" - well they were already having a chat, so maybe a "talk" (a difference which seemed suddenly foolish to her, but she was in no place to question it at the moment). Finally deciding to leave things as they were, she turned her focus back to Kase ( ... )
