Phoebe was smiling brightly as Storm spoke, despite herself. Part of her felt guilty for feeling happy, because Professor Xavier (whom she had liked, honestly, he had been her favorite professor last year) was not here, but for the most part? She couldn't help it. She had a wonderful summer, and this seemed like a wonderful start to the year.

She looked about quickly, turning her head for a sight of any of her friends. Phoebe's smile widened as she spotted Kase and Tristian, and bounded over to them with a sudden burst of energy. She wasn't normally this active, or excited (in fact she was normally rather calm), but it was the first day of school and that in itself deserved some hyper.

"Kase!" she laughed, coming up from behind her friend and hugging her. "I missed you - I have so much to tell you - I worked over the summer at a fast food restaurant, can you believe it, me in one of those silly aprons trying to cook!" Phoebe forced her unusual surge of talkativeness down, and grinned, turning to Tristian. "Clockwork," she greeted him teasingly, punching him lightly on the arm. "How are you?"

Sitting on the fringes of the mass of students, Aleida looked around anxiously, completely unable to listen to Professor Munroe. She was in a group of mutants - most who looked very unassuming - and oh boy was she anxious to get out. Her hands rested gently against her thighs, palm-up; with all the tension and stress running through her, she was sure her powers were bound to act up, and that was the last thing she needed. She scoured the room for something familiar, found absolutely nothing, and sighed painfully to herself. She had noted that some students in the room were wearing peculiar gloves; she assumed these students had powers relating to their hands as well - unfortunately for her, gloves would've disintegrated under her touch as well.

With the sudden uproar, Aleida tore her eyes away from her hands. It seemed the professor was done; all the students were beginning to mingle and this was her cue to leave. Standing quickly, she squeezed past little kids and large teenagers as she tried to make her exit. Unfortunately, several other students decided they might like to move about and greet their friends, incidentally knocking into Aleida.

"Excu-," was all she managed before a rather large, burly girl knocked her right over - into the very much unsuspecting Kase. "Oof," Aleida declared quietly as she hit the ground, feeling a swell of hot embarrassment come over her. She moved to push herself off the ground, but felt the floor beginning to disappear from under her fingers. "Oh. great," she murmured, still not having looked up at the group she had fallen into. She concentrated, giving getting up another try and thankfully this attempt was successful.

Looking at the group awkwardly, she nodded her head as if to greet them. "I'm sorry," she said briefly, turning carefully. She would be more careful; oh what a disaster it would've been if she feel into someone else!

Kase beamed, delighted to be seeing her friend again. She had certainly missed him; Tristian was always something of a calming presence for her. Just by being around he could keep her in line where most could not. She tended to be on her better behavior when it came to her power when he was around.

She grinned at him, having successfully pulled out at least something of his summer vacation memories, "Mine was good, I suppose. Glad to be home again, though," and really she did think of the Institute as home now. Though she missed her younger siblings very much, she did not at all regret saying goodbye to her parents and the strained tension that filled her family's home. The only reason she even bothered to go home at all was for her little siblings; if not for them, she'd never leave the Institute at all.

As he motioned over to the chairs, she nodded and quickly took the seat he motioned her to. Her smile faded at his next words though. She nodded slowly and somewhat sadly, "Yeah, it is weird..." she didn't really know what else to say about it. She felt guilty to be so happy when things were certainly not quite right, but what could she do? She'd happily listen to Tristian's thoughts on the matter, though, if he needed an ear for it. She never minded being there for him.

However, just then Phoebe appeared hugging her from behind, "Pheebs!" she grinned, twisting in her chair to hug her best friend back, "I missed you, too!" she laughed, "Worked? Wait, you cooked?" she laughed some more, as she tried to imagine it.

Her laughter was quickly halted as something fell on top of her and then rolled off. Her eyes went wide and she gave a small grunt, "Hey!" she blinked and looked down to see what had just collided with her. "Oh! Are you all right?" she asked as she realized it was not an object but a person. She moved to bend down and offer her hand to help the girl up. She'd never seen this girl before and her curiosity was piqued.

Tristian returned her grin. "That's great. How are the kids? Good, I hope?" He knew that Kas adored her siblings, so he knew that she would have been delighted at seeing them again. He sincerly hoped none of them were sick. He nodded, understanding about the whole 'home' thing. This place was far more of a home to him than his dad's place. "Yeah, me too."

He nodded, opting not to push her any harder than that. It was a very touchy subject for everyone that was involved with the school. But, who was he to bring down the excitement of the day? He let the subject drop, and started to ask her about classes, when Phoebe bounded upon them.

Tristian grinned at the two girls, shaking his head. "Hey, Daz. I'm great, how are you? Did you have a good summer?" He laughed along with the two of them as Kas let out her shock at Phoebe cooking. "Everything still intact? No firemen?" He winked at Dazzle to show that he was joking.

But, as the girl that he had never seen before sort of...fell into Kas and then to the floor, he stopped laughing, and stood up to check on her. After Kas had helped pick her up, Tristian smiled at her. "Hey, sorry about that. The first day of school kind of gets some people....crazy. It won't always be like this." He broadened his grin. "I'm Tristian."

"YES! I cooked! Or at least, I tried to." Phoebe giggled slightly, pulling back finally. "Well, you know fast food restaurants - there was enough grease on those things that everybody's taste buds were too dead to realize how bad it tasted." She waved a hand slightly, as if dismissing the fact, still smiling. "I wanted a spot at the counter, but the manager was stupid and told me I couldn't because I was too short." Phoebe huffed at the memory, but her grin still didn't fade.

She outstretched her arms and put on a mock-offended look. "Nope! I'm still here, no ugly burnmarks or amputated limbs and no firemen. Absolutely none, I promise!" Phoebe grinned at him happily. "It was fantastic! I'm still glad to be back, of course." As was a habit of hers when she was happy, her hands unconsciously came together and clasped each other, rubbing slightly. It felt like her powers were almost itching inside of her, she hadn't occasion to use them nearly all summer.

She turned quickly as she heard a slight thump, and saw a girl lying on the floor. "Oh, my!" she gasped, looking at her, and would have offered a hand except that Kase beat her to it. Phoebe couldn't help but smile at Tristian's words, and nodded. "Yeah, are you new? I don't think I've seen you before."

Looking at the three people before her, Aleida felt her stomach sink and a burning sensation hit her cheeks. This certainly was not how she wanted to be remembered! She may never see these people again (especially now that she had decided never to leave her room ever again) and her lack of grace would be what they remembered. When they gathered again they would say "Remember that odd girl who fell on you and left a weird hand print on the floor?" and have a good laugh at her expense. She assumed that perhaps this was how her whole life would go, and she would be forced one day into being a hermit, maybe even with the fifteen cats required by the "crazy old lady" club.

Her attention was retrieved when Kase finally spoke, asking her if she was alright. "Fine," she murmured, eyes suddenly locked on the hand offered to her. Aleida's lips were pressed tight together in contemplation; should she take the girl's hand or not? Looking from the girl's hand to her face and back again a few times, Aleida decided she might as well go for it. If she didn't accept it, the other girl would feel awkward (not to mention her reply in future conversations would be "Oh, she was such a snob"), and if she did she might hurt the other. Ah, she was sure someone in the room was a healer - or at least she hoped. Well, I am a mutant, she thought as took the others girl's hand, almost a disclaimer that Kase couldn't hear - or so Aleida thought.

Suddenly they began talking to her as if they were actually interested. Aleida was surprised, and quite looked it, not knowing exactly what to. She instantly noticed the boy who had stood and now was smiling as if she were the best thing ever. Tristian was his name, she noted, storing it away with the rest of her knowledge. His smile was contagious and she couldn't help but let a smirk fall over her own face. "Oh, I'm Aleida," was all she could think to say, but it was alright, she was soon interrupted by the blond girl.

"Uh, yes," she answered swiftly, suddenly wondering if there were so few students that you ended up knowing everyone by the end of the year. Aleida wasn't sure if she liked that; it is so much easier to blend in when there is a larger student body. Her hands moved anxiously at her sides, as if wiggling her fingers and eyebrows would somehow give her words to say. Unfortunately, all it did was make her look very odd. Realizing this, she stopped settling on just a small smirk.

Kase grinned, ever delighted when someone remembered to ask after her siblings, "Oh, they're great, yes! Always the perfect picture of health, even though my brother tried to jump off the roof one day," she shook her head, laughing at the memory, then she spoke a passing thought aloud without quite realizing it, "Sometimes I wish they were mutants too, if only so they could be here with me. It's hard, you know?" she gave a lopsided smile, then shrugged. She supposed he didn't, really, but she couldn't really expect anyone to. At least, not unless they could read minds like she could.

Kase could tell that Tristian needed to talk to someone about all that had happened to change the world they lived in, and not just because she was once more reading his thoughts, but now in this crowd didn't seem the place to take the topic farther. She wouldn't forget to find a better time for them to talk about it soon, though. It was what snoopy sister-like friends were for, after all.

She laughed at his joke at Phoebe's expense, happy to have the light-hearted feel that they usually had as a group for the moment. She found that she appreciated it all the more in light of recent events. She listened intently to her best friend's talk of her summer, not even needing to read the other girl's mind. She giggled, extremely happy to have Phoebe back; she had quite missed the other girl's bright presence all summer. No one could make a room sparkle like Phoebe, and it had nothing to do with her power. "Too short?" she shook her head, though she had to admit that was a better excuse than saying she was a filthy mutant or something. Height discrimination didn't seem so bad next to that thought.

She laughed at Phoebe's spirited reply to Tristian, but she forgot all of their conversation as she focused on the girl who'd fallen. The girl's hesitancy to take her hand made Kase instantly wonder what her power might be. That combined with the thoughts running through the new girl's mind were enough to make Kase really rather curious. It didn't take more than a few seconds to pull the girl back to her feet and she didn't hold on any longer, not wanting to make the girl any more uncomfortable.

"Welcome, Aleida," she smiled, "Clockwork's right. Things are always a bit wild at first, but people will settle down soon enough. A wonder what classes do to people," she winked. Her eyebrow went up slightly as the new girl gave something of a smile at Tristian. It always surprised her a bit when people took to Tristian, especially girls. He was wonderful, sure, absolutely the best, in fact. But it never really dawned on her that other girls might perhaps develop crushes on him. Since she couldn't see him that way, it never occurred to her that others might. Still, she was glad that he'd gotten her to smile and look a little less upset or awkward or whatever that was.

She almost replied to the bit about knowing everyone in the school, but then she realized that was reading thoughts she didn't have permission to do. No, no, no. She couldn't let that slip, so she just smiled instead, then moving over to pull up another chair beside her own to offer to the new girl. She sat back down on her own, then patted the empty chair invitingly.

Tristian laughed when Kas told him of her brother trying to jump off of the roof. Kids could do some crazy stuff sometimes, stuff that Tristian himself had attempted to do at time. Once, he'd even tried to jump off of his dad's roof.....on a bicycle. He had to admit, he had a few, good, summertime memories since his mom died. "Well, I'd say he's adventurous. That's a good thing." He laughed and then nodded as she stated speaking about how she wished her siblings were mutants at times. "Yeah, that's completely understandable. You're close to them, it has to be hard."

Tristian smirked when Phoebe said that she'd been told she was too short. Honestly, he'd seen people shorter than Phoebe behind counters before. "Well, at least you got the experience, yeah?" That'a boy Tristian. Look on the bright side of things.

Aleida. Tristian had never heard that name before. Then again, names weren't exactly exotic back home. "Yeah, it's nice to meet you." The girl seemed a bit hesitant to be here, and he couldn't say he blamed her. A school full of mutants? It was hard to adjust to, even for, well, other mutants. "Yeah. Just give it some time, it'll calm down." The girl's hesitant smile made Clockwork feel good. Hey, he couldn't help it. He was a big softie when it came to making other people happy.

As Kas patted the other chair, Tristian resumed his own chair, and looked at the group expectantly. "So, Aleida, where do you come from? Did you have to travel far?" Some people came all the way from Europe, though he was almost certain Aleida didn't. She didn't have an accent, at least.

"I think it was more for the money than it was for the experience," Phoebe shrugged, and grinned. "I needed some for my mom to use while I'm here. But it was... interesting! Except for all the grease. So unhealthy," she made a face, and surpressed a slight shudder. When you crushed those fries in a napkin... well, the easiest way to put it was that they lost half their weight.

"And I have no idea why they told me that!" Phoebe cried, "Certainly some of their other workers were shorter than me, I'm not particularly short anyhow! Ah well, it might've been a good thing, though. I didn't really know how to work the cash register." And that was true - while testing it out, she had to constantly remind herself that cash register =/= plane.

"Oh, that's a lovely name!" she commented, beaming. New people were always fun - there was so much diversity at Xavier's, so many different powers that were all so interesting. It was something she loved about it, it was much better than any old stuffy boarding school.

"I'm Phoebe, but my alias is Dazzle, if you like," she smiled, introducing herself in turn, but quieted down and pushed her own questions away as Tristian started to talk to her. She listened for Aleida's answer, always curious about new things or people. Perhaps it was something she had picked up from Kase?

Aleida listened to them all talk, but not really in interest, so much as in the fact there didn't seem to be anything else to do. She was only vaguely polite, and she exercised the lessons etiquette classes had taught her - even though she didn't it very well. Her smile was weary but she was determined to keep from upsetting any of these three. Who knew what their power could be! Never mind if any of them had tempers; she thought it would be best to just act as friendly as she could managed and go from there.

My, she thought idly, that girl seems very...excitable. Her thoughts were, of course, in reference to Phoebe. Aleida didn't think her name was exactly lovely, but again she fished into her bag of tricks and pulled out a very polite smile and nod to give to Phoebe.

Looking at Kase as she pulled the chair over, Aleida had to stop herself from looking surprised, or horrified, which ever. She hadn't been meaning to sit and have a little chat; she had had every intention of returning to her room and staying there for the night! Or forever, if her classes allowed it. She nodded thankfully in Kase's direction, sitting down softly and looking at the others.

The "excitable" girl introduced herself as Phoebe, to which Aleida nodded. Well, this would be easy. She had been expecting names like "Marhuginaro" or "Bippity Bop", but Phoebe and Tristian were worlds easier. She did, however, wonder what this business about "Clockwork" and "Dazzle" was. An alias? What could they possibly need an alias for? She supposed if you didn't like your name, when you came to the Institute you could change it to whatever you fancied. If she had wanted to be Morgan, she very well could have been; she simply quite liked the name Aleida.

Looking back at Tristian, Aleida opened her mouth to answer his question, but was positively lost. She stumbled for a minute, her brain finally deciding that a vague answer would be better than a downright lie. "Umm..no. Not too far. Just Pennsylvania," she answered hesitantly, her smile faltering for a moment. It was awfully difficult to talk about where she came from without feeling just a bit downtrodden.

Kase grinned a Tristian, nodding in agreement about her siblings. Tristian was always so good about understanding her, unlike quite a few people both in and out of the school. She couldn't help but snort at him when she caught his thought of his own roof-jumping memory. She shook her head then tilted it to the side to look at him closely, as though to say So all boys are just that stupid, huh? She'd have to remember that one to tease him about later.

She turned her smile on Phoebe, "Well, good thing it wasn't a total loss, anywayl. I still can't picture you in a fast food place. Of course, I haven't been inside one myself in years. My mom hates all of them," she rolled her eyes, "I don't care if there's that much grease, I'd still kill for a french fry every once in a while. Carrot sticks do not taste that great every day," she made a face of disgust, recalling her mother's strict diet. She was always glad to get away from that and eat whatever she wanted at the Institute.

She shook her head, still smiling, "Knowing you, Pheebs, you'd have tried to work it like a plane. The manager probably wouldn't have liked that too much," she winked. She hadn't even needed to read Phoebe's mind to guess that one, but it certainly helped.

Kase beamed along with her friends as they all welcomed Aleida. She was proud to part of such a group; no one could resist Tristian and Phoebe's charm and friendliness. She didn't know what would have become of her if she hadn't had them to help her fit in at Xavier's. And she had to agree with them both that Aleida's name was different and interesting, though if her own mother had thought of it, Kase would hate it. But it seemed to suit the other girl well. Kase idly wondered if Aleida had an alias since she hadn't mentioned one. Of course, Kase hadn't mentioned hers, but she often forgot to. It didn't seem all that important when you weren't selected to be one of the X-Men.

As Tristian asked his question, Kase turned back to the other girl, never even noticing that Aleida had been surprised or confused or whatever that Kase had even offered the chair. She'd been too distracted by thoughts of her friends to pay attention to Aleida's thoughts. She didn't notice it at first, but upon turning back, she realized she'd not yet heard any surface thoughts from the new girl. Kase blinked to herself, Well, that's odd.

But she wanted to be friendly and listen to what the new girl had to say, so she didn't let herself think about it long. She smiled as Aleida answered the question, somewhat hesitant. She wondered if Aleida was perhaps nervous or something, that would hardly be a surprise since it was obviously her first day at Xavier's. She tilted her head to the side, thinking. Something was definitely odd here. She simply wasn't picking up any thoughts from the new girl. She wondered if Aleida's power had anything telepathic to it, or anything. It was the only reason she could think of for the kind of mental white noise she was receiving from Aleida's thoughts, or rather lack of them.

Tristian smiled at her. He knew what she was thinking. He didn't have to be a telepath to know that she just thought they both were crazy. But, who said there was something wrong with being a little crazy? Exactly.

Tristian laughed. "Well, I'm sure if you had to spend a few days with my dad you would get your fill of french fries. He doesn't know how to cook, so it's takeout every night with him. Sometimes I'd do just about anything for a homecooked meal." He nodded for emphasis. "Just one of the many reasons that I love coming back here every year. They have actual food not just cheap Chiense and pizza."

Tristian laughed. Phoebe was an ace at the flying part of the lessons. A skill that he hadn't been graced with, that was for sure. "Yeah, probably not a good idea to punch in altitude numbers on a cash register." Though, it would be funny, charing someone 2,000 dollars for a burger. Heh.

Tristian nodded at Aleida. "Pennsylvania? I've never actually been there. I hear it is nice, though."

Or, you know, he'd heard that for the sake of conversation.

Jessie pulled her head back from outside of the window. The campus was gorgeous! Just look at it! Of course, it was no South Carolina, but it was still so pretty! She grinned happily- this was her chance to start over again. She had been poking her nose around the school a bit before Storm (wasn't that such a cool name? She kind of wanted one of those nicknames, well, she sort of had one picked out, but wanted to be sure it would catch on first before she started using it.) spoke to them. Luckily it wasn't anything long winded, Jessie wasn't focusing particularly well. She wanted to meet everyone! She really spending time with friends; she had been in the house for so long she had almost forgotten what it was like!

Well, that was exaggerated in the way only a teenage girl could. It was really only a month of 'house arrest,' the more interesting and less embarrassing version of mental breakdown. She looked around the room quickly, looking for the kids her own age. There was a group of them across the room from her. They looked relatively nice, and the boy certainly was cute! But probably with one of those girls. Why did all the cute ones get snatched up?

She laughed quietly, reminding herself why she was here. Although cute boys were always important, she really wanted to make friends more than anything, and work on getting her powers under more control. SO thinking, she insured that she wouldn't feel shy at all around the new group, and walked over to them.

It was hard sometimes, remembering to keep her pace in check. If she broke into a small trot, as was common for her to do long before she came into her powers, she would go shooting forward and crash into something. She had learned this the hard way by crashing into a wall when she was trying to get to the phone. And repeated the same action three times again, still convinced she had just skidded on the floor.

"Hi!" She smiled, waving as she approached the group. "I'm Jessie, nice to meet ya'll."

((Sorry everyone, this seemed to stall out, so Im going again, hope you don't mind...))

Tristian stared up at the new arrival, a smile crossing his face. She had a southern accent. Not many people at Xavier's seemed to have an accent like his. It brought back a small sense of his life before his mom died and he smiled even wider.

"Hey there. I'm Tristian, this is Phoebe, Kas, and Aleida," he said, introducing everyone. He looked at the girl. She was pretty, that much was certain. "So, this is your first day here, right? Where are you from?"

She giggled slightly, "I thought it might be a bit obvious! Everyone always tells me I have the most ridiculous accent! I'm from South Carolina- near Aikan? Ever been there? It's gorgeous!" She brushed a strand of loose hair back behind her ear. "So are you from 'round these parts?" She looked around at the other teens while asking. Phoebe, Kas, and Aleida. Pretty names! Her own felt a little common, but she didn't really mind.

"And yeah, this is my first day. They just discover the whole," she waved her hands about uselessly, "mutant thing a few months ago. So I'm brand new at all of this!" She smiled to conceal her nerves. She wasn't one to get really nervous...but this was all so new. "Hope ya'll can show me around! I think I'll get totally lost on my own!"
