This post is for threading with Zuko anytime and anywhere. It can be used for Action or the Ring feature on journals (voice or written) to get in contact with him for personal conversations. This will be used primarily for 'placement' threads such as: someone left a present or 'by the way, come to this party on such-and-such' or the like ( Read more... )

[It has been one hell of a day. Someone sees her home, since she's not fit to stand, and she's elicited promises that they come and get her right away if something goes wrong - she'll find the strength to fix it - and right now all Katara wants is a shower, maybe some food, and her bed, and not necessarily in that order.

She won't have any problem finding this, right?]

[No problem at all, if she bothers to answers Zuko's questions when she first arrives home. Someone left her journal open on the counter -- and then someone else, after wandering into the kitchen to see if she needed anything picked up for dinner, saw it and the unattended half-made dinner and jumped to conclusions.

... Then he read the journal and just got annoyed. Seriously, Katara? Just up and leave like that? They could have helped somehow.

When he finds her, he's holding her journal and giving her a curious -- and slightly frustrated -- look.]

Yo.

[Katara is too tired to notice that the book his holding happens to be her journal. She shuts the door behind her and lifts off her waterskin, her movement sluggish and pained.]

Hey.

[...yes, she is currently too tired and upset to start asking 'Where is everybody' and 'I think I owe them an explanation about dinner.' Give her a minute?]

[How about half a minute, while he looks her over and takes in just how absolutely weary she looks. He's not sure if that eases annoyance or just frustrates him more. Did she honestly go running out without an explanation, especially when she'd come back like this?

He holds up the journal.]

How's your friend?

What? How did you-- [And she notes the book with her name on it.]

Hey, give that back!

[He holds it out to her; he has no intention of snooping through her journal or otherwise invading her privacy.] You left it open on the counter. Next to the half-cooked dinner.

[A beat.] It looked a bit suspicious. How's your friend?

[Katara reaches out takes the book - it's heavy - and she drops it on the coffee table, abruptly exhausted.]

He'll be okay. [So. Tired.] There wasn't any time. You saw what happened - [obviously] - did you tell them?

[This way they wouldn't be worried. ...hungry, though, maybe. Her gaze flickers to the kitchen.]

[Just seeing how tired she is drains some of his annoyance away. Obviously, she'd worked very hard to heal her friend. He nodded once, sighing a bit as he did so.]

Told them you had to step out. Finished up dinner, too.

[A quick smile, just for him and not for the memory of who he was once.] Thanks.

[She looks away towards her bedroom - sleep - and her stomach voices a vocal protest. Her expression turns a touch sheepish.]

We have any of that leftover?

Hold up.

[And back to the kitchen he goes, putting together a small plate of food for her. It's not much -- try keeping leftovers in this house, really -- but it should be enough. Hopefully. She looks like she'll fall asleep before she's eaten half of it anyway.

Zuko comes back in short order, stir fry and rice in a bowl, and hands it off to her.]

Saving food back is harder in this house than I thought it'd be.

[Oh, wow. He'd saved her something? That was unexpected. And so just - nice. This was way better than the cold cereal she'd expected to make herself. And he'd even got it and brought it over to her?]

Wow. Thanks, Zuko.

[And she doesn't bother going to the table, just sits right there on the sofa by the door and starts digging in. She didn't realize how hungry she really was until she started eating, and for the moment all her concentration is on her food. It even revitalizes her enough that soon it's not painful to lift the chopsticks to her mouth.]

[He shrugs an answer -- a sort of wordless "you're welcome" -- and lets her eat before he speaks again.]

So what happened?

[She glances up at him, mildly annoyed that he's still just standing there and treating this like some sort of inquisition.]

You should sit down if we're going to talk.

[Because she is not subjecting herself to any inquisition, let alone yours. Talk, though, she can do.]

[What's wrong with standing? Blink, blink. But sit he does, settling himself onto the end of the couch and regarding her an expression that clearly means "I'm sitting, so now can we talk?"]

[She shakes her head a little bit and turns her attention back to the remains of her food, picking at it for a moment. But... she doesn't really feel like eating anymore.]

The Malnosso... they took Chouji and when they returned him, they didn't... completely fix him. He collapsed when he was talking with Shikamaru, so they came and got me. He - his heart had stopped by the time I got there.

[Her hands fist in her lap.]

But Shikamaru was giving him chest compressions - it's a kind of other world first aid - and so I was able clear out his chi system, but... that wasn't the worst of it.

[He has a few questions.

A) Who's Chouji? and B) who's Shikamaru? and C)... Not the worst of it? How was that not the worst of it?]

What else?

[What else are these Malnosso capable of?]
