Lost in Mass...

Soooo... We- as in me, Liz, Crystal, and Dani went to visit the sisters of Delta Delta at UMass.

Wow... that was interesting... once we finally got there on Friday night, we stayed up pretty late just talking with the DD sisters. They are just like us, sisters in every way... but they have a marching band of over 375 people. Holy cow.

Saturday morning we went to breakfast and then took a tour of campus. The library is HUUUUUGE. As an English major, I squealed at every old book tied together with ribbon and shoelaces because of the wear and tear of time. After that, we just chilled out and fed the ducks, and the radioactive fish, lol.

Later on in the night, we went to a concert. We were blown away. The first half of the concert, twenty trombones balanced and harmonized songs from "The Saints go Marching In" to a trio composed by actual graduates from the school (which was AMAZING). There was also one song, "A Short Motorcycle Ride", was a solo with throat singing and actual "dance" movements. It was pretty awesome.

The second half of the concert, I was blown away by an ensemble of 46 Trombones. They played Scarborough Fair with so much feeling that I got chills, and they played Sousa's Washington Post March so well that I couldn't wipe the grin off my face.

It was the last concert that the Instructor would put together before retirement. The house was packed, and the applause went on forever. I hope someday that I can make a difference like that, and have it really be appreciated. Just hearing the concert I could understand how great an instructor he was. To organize and motivate that many people, to teach and tweak and work so hard for something, and to have people appreciate you that much... he must have been a really amazing man.

After the concert, the brothers and sisters had a party, which was a lot of fun. I haven't really had much to drink in a long time. It was good to just let go and have fun, and be around a bunch of new people.

The next morning we left in time to get back for meetings at 4. Unfortunately, due to some navigational discrepancies in the front, we ended up in North Adams, on the other side of the state. Fortunately, once we realized this, we were about 45 minutes away from Bennington. Knowing the long trip we had ahead, I called my parents to ask for some snacks for the ride back. They picked us up and took us out to lunch. It was definitely a funny coincidence, and a big surprise for my parents, lol.

Unfortunately, this meant that we had to miss joint meetings, and the regular meeting time and planned exec meeting. Fortunately, Shaunna really pulled through for us, and took over joint meetings. That girl deserves a lot for all she really does, and I was amazed by how well she handled things.

Anyway, now we're back, and I've got a butt-ton of work to do. Time to get to it!
